The "smart" dryer for vegetables and fruits "Lekvip" itself determines the amount of moisture in the products and offers the user the best mode for its careful removal. Sensors monitor the process and turn off the device when the liquid level in the ingredients approaches zero. The device has an additional infrared emitter, which significantly expands the possibilities of obtaining really gentle and high-quality drying of products.

How does a dryer work?

The principle of operation of this model is based on the use of an additional infrared heater. It does not use energy to raise the temperature of the air inside the chamber, but immediately directs streams of simulated sunlight to the products in the trays. Therefore, the removal of moisture takes less time.

Uniform blowing of the trays reduces the operating time of the device by 1.5 hours in comparison with other models. It can work in three modes:

Selling a dryer with a reduced noise level allows you to turn on the equipment without creating discomfort for family members and without interfering with rest. We are confident in the reliability of the equipment, so we provide a 5-year warranty. If the dryer fails, you can contact specialized centers in Moscow or St. Petersburg for qualified diagnostics and repairs.

The attractive design of the square body with rounded edges will look great in your kitchen.

The infrared dehydrator L "equip IR-D5 for five trays is an ultra-modern and technologically advanced kitchen assistant that can perform a whole range of tasks. A feature of this device is the use of an infrared heating element that heats not the air in the chamber, but the products, providing efficient and economical drying.

The dehydrator has a smart display that shows the temperature in the chamber. The control buttons of the device are very convenient and ergonomic. And the overall design of the device can be called fantastic.
Trays are made of environmentally friendly stainless steel, easy to clean and hard to deform. Also included with the device is a crumb collection tray and comfortable silicone tacks.

Also, L "equip IR D5 is equipped with an air filter, which compares it favorably with devices from other manufacturers. The filter increases the life of the dehydrator and protects the dried products from dust and impurities. Thanks to the built-in humidity sensor, the device is able to independently determine the amount of moisture in the products and select the optimal drying program.

L'equip IR-D5 seems to be the first such "smart" dehydrator to be tested in the laboratory site. Firstly, the device has an automatic drying function - the solution is so simple and ingenious that it is not clear why we have not yet met a device with such a function. Humidity sensors are built into the dehydrator, according to which the end time of the heat treatment process is calculated. According to the manufacturer, the device, using an intelligent control system, is able to determine not only the time, but also the drying temperature. The dehydration process stops as soon as the air humidity in the product drops to the limit values set in the program.

The second feature of the dehydrator L’equip IR-D5 is associated with the presence of the “Drying in the sun” mode. An additional heating element is built into the device - a red spectrum lamp, which creates low-temperature infrared radiation with a very long wavelength. This radiation is considered harmless to food and humans. This lamp can be turned on, simulating the “under the sun” drying mode, or not turned on, by selecting the “in the shade” drying mode in the device menu.

The device seemed to us very curious, so we tested its capabilities with great interest. During practical tests, special attention was paid to checking the results of automatic drying and the differences in the drying modes "under the sun" and "in the shade".

Equipment

A simple box in a typical light brown color seems to hint to us that the manufacturer does not waste his time and money on unnecessary marketing ploys. From above and from the side, we see a schematic representation of the dehydrator in different planes. The meaning of the textual information, unfortunately, is not available to us, since all information is presented in Korean. On one of the sides, a small sticker was found with information about the device, model and brief technical characteristics in our native language. On the sides of the package there are recesses for the palm of the hand, which facilitates the transportation of the packed device.

The device itself inside the box is protected from shock and damage by foam inserts. The body of the dehydrator was packed in a dust-proof plastic bag. The power cord was located in a separate small cardboard box. In general, we took out of the package:

  • dehydrator body with grates laid inside and a crumb collection tray;
  • two silicone tacks;
  • network cord;
  • instruction manual.

In general, the size of the device itself compared to the dimensions of the package is unexpected. We were even somewhat surprised by the compactness of the dehydrator.

At first sight

Visual inspection left the best impression. The case has a rather stylish and unusual look: rounded corners, a combination of contrasting colors in the design, a mirror surface of a large central display ... It seems that in our hands the “hi-tech” is either from the future, or from the future as we imagined it in the later 80s. In any case, the design cannot be called pretentious, in the worst sense of the word, everything is very elegant and simple.

Closer to the user, on the top side of the device is a control panel, represented by a round knob, four buttons and a slightly raised black, mirror-reflecting scoreboard. Along the perimeter of the screen there is a light gray insert, under which there is an LED backlight that changes its color depending on the selected mode of operation of the dehydrator.

At the bottom of the back of the device you can see the power connector and the power button.

In the center is the filter cover, under which the filter itself is hidden.

The cover is rather tight removed and just as tightly inserted with a specific click. However, it is unlikely that you will often need to open and clean the filter.

On the bottom side, the device is equipped with four legs a little over 1 cm high. The legs have rubber inserts of a rather large diameter that prevent slipping and protect the table surface from scratches and damage. On the sides are holes for air circulation.

The dehydrator door is opaque plastic, so you will have to monitor the degree of readiness of the products “by instruments” - or you can violate the thermal regime by opening the damper. It swings open to the left, but since the operation is effortless, it is easy to do this for both right-handed and left-handed people. Please note that the inner surface of the door is made of stainless steel. This increases the thermal efficiency of the device: heat is not absorbed by the door surface, but is reflected from it, additionally heating the product.

The surfaces of the inner chamber are white, the fan and shrouds are also made of stainless steel, which reflects heat well. It seems that Koreans know firsthand about saving electricity. Air outlets are visible on the top and bottom on the side walls. The distance between the installation levels of the gratings is 3 cm.

A fan and an infrared lamp are attached to the back wall of the inner chamber.

Five trays are made of food stainless steel. They are able to withstand a large weight load, and metal contributes to uniform heating of the product, as it has an increased thermal conductivity compared to plastic trays.

The dehydrator comes with two silicone gloves designed to protect the user from burns when removing the grates from a hot appliance. The crumb tray is installed on the bottom of the inner chamber. The pallet is white, smooth, made of the same plastic as the dehydrator chamber. When installed, the accessory completely merges with the surroundings and does not give the impression of a separate part. Visually, this can be assessed as a beautiful and harmonious solution.

The dehydrator looks like a serious device, it has an elegant design and simple construction, and various little things, such as an air filter, a heat-reflecting front door lining material and an infrared emitter, make one admire the engineering thought of the device designers. During the inspection, we had one single question: is moisture effectively removed from the products in a chamber with such a small, at first glance, the number of small-diameter ventilation holes? Judging by the thoughtfulness of the device, probably yes. But trust and charm are not about us. Therefore, we can answer this question only after practical experiments.

Instruction

A brochure larger than A5 is made of thick paper. Information is delivered only in one language - Russian. The content of the manual is typical. A lot of information is devoted to safety measures when using a dehydrator. The abundance of graphic information makes the study of the manual not so tedious and boring. After carefully reading the document, the user will learn about the configuration and purpose of individual parts, operating rules, cleaning and care. The warranty card is printed on the last page of the manual. Several pages are dedicated to dehydration tips for different types of foods. The information is presented in tabular form and is very easy to understand and find the information you need. Also, the user can read the recommendations for the storage of dried products.

The only sections that seemed interesting and really necessary to us were practical advice on dehydration and a description of the control and drying modes. Perhaps the user, especially a beginner, will have to repeatedly look at these pages.

Control

It was this aspect of working with the dehydrator that made us carefully study the instruction manual: at first, the abundance of buttons and indicators on the control panel confused us a little.

So, the device can operate in two modes: manual, when the user sets the drying time and temperature, and automatic, when the device independently determines the dehydration parameters. Switching between modes is done by pressing the Auto/Manual button (upper left). Immediately below this button is a button for switching drying modes: “in the sun” and “in the shade”. On the right side of the round knob, by turning which the time and temperature are set when using the manual mode, there is a temperature / time selection button and a button that turns on / off the “sun” and “shade” drying indicator.

The drying mode indicator itself is located around a black-mirror display and glows brightly in orange or green.

When connecting the device to the mains, it is necessary to turn the power supply switch located on the rear side of the case to the On position. At the same time, the dehydrator emits a soft melodious sound, and the drying mode indicator light lights up in bright green. The initial drying parameters are displayed: 35 °C and 1 hour. If you want to work with the device in manual mode, you can immediately set the required temperature values by turning the knob clockwise to increase. The step of temperature change is 1 °C. To set the time, you need to press the corresponding button and turn the knob to the desired position. The timer is set from 1 to 99 hours in 1 hour increments.

If you intend to dehydrate products in automatic mode, then after turning on the device in the network, press the Auto / Manual mode selection button, and then select the drying mode by pressing the corresponding button. The temperature display will illuminate a row of dots and the time display will show how much moisture is left in the product. The instructions say that when using the Auto mode, the temperature inside the chamber will decrease and increase automatically. Specific digital indicators are not displayed on the display, however, when the moisture content of the products decreases, the rows of burning dots go out. As tests have shown, the lower, fading last strip corresponds to about 1-1.5 hours before the end of drying.

After setting and selecting the desired modes, you need to press the regulator, which will start the drying process. If the door is opened while the dehydrator is running, operation will pause and the Open indicator will light up on the display. Closing the lid will resume operation. At the end of the drying process, the dehydrator emits melodious signals of medium volume, and the inscription End appears on the display.

The drying mode indicator light is quite bright, this can interfere, for example, at night. Therefore, we are especially grateful to the engineers who provided the ability to turn off the indicator. In general, management turned out to be not at all as intricate as we imagined. All buttons are signed or provided with understandable drawings placed on them. Light indicators are represented by visual pictograms: an orange sun with rays, a green cloud. The selected modes and drying parameters are shown on the display. So there should not be any problems with the management of the dehydrator.

Usage

Training

The appliance must be installed on a level, stable surface in a well-ventilated area at least 25 cm from the wall. There are no recommendations for preparing the trays in the instruction manual, but we still washed the trays in warm water with detergent. The body itself was completely clean, and the products do not come into contact with it, so we did not wipe the body of the dehydrator before the first use.

Then prepared the products and placed them on the trays.

Ergonomics

The dehydrator turned out to be an extremely convenient device. Firstly, it does not take up much space in the kitchen, while it has a fairly decent capacity. The outer surfaces of the case heat up slightly even when operating at the highest temperature, so it is impossible to get burned by accidentally touching the device. We never had to use silicone tacks: the metal sheets were, of course, hot, especially when dried at 70 ° C, but not so hot as to feel severe discomfort.

The holes in the metal trays are quite large, so it is impossible to put finely chopped products (onions, herbs) on them. For drying this type of raw material and marshmallow, silicone or Teflon sheets are usually used. They were not included with the L’equip IR-D5 dehydrator, the user can purchase sheets either in chain stores or from a drying equipment supplier. We, in order to prevent spillage of products through the holes of the grates, took ordinary food parchment, cutting the sheets to the size of the pallets.

Management is intuitive. Indicators on the display prompt which mode and drying parameters are selected. The design of the dehydrator is extremely convenient and thought out to the smallest detail. We did not encounter any surprises during the operation of the device. In the section of practical testing, the progress of each of the experiments carried out is described.

Care

The body of the dehydrator should be cleaned with a damp soft cloth or towel. Do not allow water or other liquids to come into contact with the electrical parts of the appliance. It is not recommended to wash the trays and the crumb tray in the dishwasher. These parts are cleaned by soaking in warm water with detergent and subsequent surface treatment with a soft brush or sponge.

This is how we washed metal meshes. After soaking for 10 minutes, all food residue was removed with a brush without effort.

Testing

Objective Tests

Power consumption was measured using a wattmeter. When the heating element is operating, the dehydrator consumes 510-525 W, which is slightly higher than the manufacturer's data. When only the fan is running - about 10.5 watts. Much more informative and useful for users is information about electricity consumption when drying real products. To measure this indicator, we loaded 1 kg of apples, cut into slices, into the dehydrator. Dehydrator power consumption measurements are given below:

  • for 1 hour of operation at a minimum temperature of 35 ° C in the drying mode "in the shade" - 0.08 kWh
  • for 1 hour of operation at a minimum temperature of 35 ° C in the drying mode "in the sun" - 0.05 kWh
  • for 1 hour of operation at a maximum temperature of 70 ° C in the drying mode "in the shade" - 0.3 kWh
  • for 1 hour of operation at a maximum temperature of 70 ° C in the drying mode "in the sun" - 0.29 kWh
  • in automatic fruit drying mode with five racks tightly loaded (about 3.3 kg of apples) in the sun drying mode - 3.9 kWh (almost 12 hours of operation)
  • in the automatic mode of drying chicken fillet with relatively freely loaded three grates (about 1 kg of fillet) in the drying mode “in the shade” - 1.42 kWh (4 h. 50 min.)

The noise level can be compared to the hum of a kitchen hood in the first mode of operation. So, subjectively, we estimate the noise level of the dehydrator L’equip IR-D5 as very low.

There are no comments on the uniformity of dehydration. L'equip IR-D5 is one of the few devices in which the drying of products is the same both along the height of the drying chamber and in different parts horizontally - in any case, this is true for large or whole pieces of food. Finely chopped vegetables still dry more intensively around the perimeter of the trays than in the center, so when drying chopped or grated vegetables and herbs, we would recommend stirring the contents of the tray once or twice. The degree of drying of the raw materials at the upper and lower levels is absolutely identical, so there is no need to swap pallets.

Given the excellent results of the device in automatic mode, we can say that the device does not require user control at all. Initially, we were afraid that with automatic drying, the products might be too dry or, conversely, remain moist. But in all tests of the Auto mode, the device showed excellent results. At least the dehydrator is guaranteed not to turn raw materials into crackers. If the products are supposed to be stored for a long time, then they can be dried to the required degree manually.

Onions and carrots

It was assumed that the vegetables would be cut into small pieces, so first we cut out sheets of parchment suitable for the size of the trays. 1 kg of peeled and chopped onion is placed on two grates.

Set to automatic sun drying mode. The process took about 9 hours. Onions dehydrated well, only some especially large fragments were not dried enough for long-term storage. Therefore, for another two hours, the samples were dried manually “in the sun” at 50°C. For the entire process, the device consumed 2.28 kWh.

Peeled and grated carrots weighing 1 kg were placed on three pallets.

The processing was also carried out in the automatic mode of drying "in the sun". The carrots were grated into almost identical pieces, so at the end of the process there was no need for drying. In total, the device worked for 4 hours and 45 minutes and consumed 1.45 kWh during this time.

Result: excellent .

During the drying of the onions, we only opened the dehydrator door twice and mixed the contents of the trays. When the carrots were drying, we pulled ourselves together, connected the will, turned off excessive curiosity and did not interfere in the process. At the same time, the automatic mode showed really adequate results: the grated root crop turned out to be completely dried. Separately, we were pleased with the low energy consumption.

Celery root and garlic

Celery root was peeled and cut into more or less even pieces. One root is placed on two trays. Net product weight was 750 g.

Dried in the "shade" mode, setting the temperature to 50°C. In 9 hours and 1.58 kWh, the raw material reached the degree of drying required for our purposes.

Peeled and cut into flat pieces of garlic weighing 430 g was laid out on one pallet.

Drying at 50°C in the sun was considered satisfactory after 10 hours. The device burned 1.76 kWh during this period of time.

Result: excellent .

As we said above, it is better to mix finely chopped products at least once during the drying process - otherwise you can get more overdried individual pieces. If the uniformity of drying is not important, as, for example, in the case of root crops that will cook for a long time, then there is no need to mix the contents of the pallets.

Sun-dried tomatoes

The tomatoes were cut lengthwise into four slices. Excess moisture was removed from the extreme pieces. Arranged on wire racks, sprinkled with sugar, salt and freshly ground black pepper. Lightly brush the surface of the tomatoes with a brush dipped in olive oil.

On one pallet we fit 864 g of tomatoes, on the other - 862 g. We dried it in the automatic mode “in the sun”. The process took exactly 11 hours. It seemed to us that the tomatoes were not dry enough, so we added another 3 hours at 55 ° C, but this was our mistake: the pieces became hard and overdried.

Noticing with horror that almost a quarter of the dried tomatoes were gnawed in anguish and reflection, we nevertheless decided to cook the rest in the traditional way: put it, mixed with garlic, in a jar, pour the tomatoes with olive oil and try to forget about them at least for a couple of weeks.

Our tomatoes, of course, turned out not dried, but dried. But it is not the device that should be blamed for this, but us. Drying by hand was obviously superfluous.

Dried greens

With this test, we wanted to check if the automatic drying differs in any way in different modes, as well as to determine the capacity of the dehydrator. In the first portion "in the sun" we sent:

  • two trays with dill - 150 and 130 g
  • one tray with green onions - 335 g
  • two trays with parsley - 130 and 140 g

Simple arithmetic calculations can tell us that about 750 g of dill or 1.5 kg of green onions or 700 g of parsley can be placed in a dehydrator for one drying cycle. You can dry more greens at once, but then the process will be longer in time. In our case, the dehydrator worked for about 7 hours. During this time, the dill turned out to be slightly overdried, parsley and onion reached the ideal degree of drying. The energy consumption turned out to be 1.89 kWh.

Shade mode helped us dry 208g parsley (1 pallet), 145g dill (1 pallet) and 535g onions (2 pallets). Drying lasted 5 hours and 15 minutes, the energy consumption was 1.53 kWh. There are no comments on the degree of drying of all types of greenery. The products dried in different modes did not differ either visually or to the touch: the color is bright, the smell is intense, dill and parsley crumble when rubbed between the fingers, the onion is more rigid and retains its shape.

Result: excellent .

So, we found out that even delicate and temperature-demanding herbs can be processed in automatic mode. The quality and organoleptic characteristics of the dried product in the modes "in the shade" and "in the sun" do not differ. With an equal mass of products placed in the dehydrator, drying "in the sun" takes less time and is more economical in terms of energy consumption.

Fruits and berries

We managed to place 1.72 kg of sliced bananas on three grids.

After all the tests and their results, we no longer wanted to independently set the temperature and guess about the time, so we dried it in the fully automatic “sun” mode that satisfies us. The process was carried out in two stages: the first time the dehydrator informed us about the readiness of the product after 6 hours and 50 minutes. In our opinion, the bananas were slightly damp, after a while we turned on the re-drying in automatic mode. The second time, the bananas were dried until cooked, according to the device, for another 1 hour and 10 minutes. The energy consumption of the entire process was 2.36 kWh. As a result, we got not banana chips, but soft, flexible, rather dried bananas, similar in smell and taste to the well-known Vietnamese product. We were completely satisfied with this. If you need to get a drier product, then using manual drying, you can bring the fruit to the state of chips. But in this test, for the first time, we encountered a little difficulty when removing a dry product from the grates. Pieces of bananas partially stuck to the grates, so we removed them by slightly bending the metal grate from the back.

Strawberries were the next product to be dried. The berries were washed, the stalks were removed and cut lengthwise into two halves. In total, 1.7 kg of prepared strawberries were placed in the dehydrator.

The berry was dried in the automatic mode "in the sun" for 9 hours 20 minutes. During this time, some of the berries dried well to a crispy state, but large pieces were soft inside. We selected the most raw, in our opinion, pieces and sent them to dry: 2 hours at 60 ° C. Dehydrogenating 1.7 kg of strawberries until crispy consumed 2.71 kWh. After a week of storage in a closed container, the berry pieces became flexible at the break and softer.

The most useful, probably from the point of view of summer residents, the experience of drying apples showed that 650-670 g of peeled and cut into rings fruits are freely placed on one grate.

The dehydrator, filled with 3.28 kg of apples, operated in automatic mode "in the sun" for almost a full 12 hours (11 hours 45 minutes). Pieces of dried apples are dense, flexible. Energy consumption during this period was 3.90 kWh. After 8 hours of the procedure, we opened the door for the first time and found that moisture had accumulated in the space between the outer and inner surfaces of the door, so that a small amount of water dripped from the door onto the surface of the table. Having carefully looked at the electronic scoreboard, we saw accumulated condensate on its inside, the scoreboard looked like it was slightly fogged up. There was nothing to be done about it, we closed the door and continued to observe. Toward the end of drying, no moisture was leaking out of the door, and the condensate on the display also disappeared. We conclude that at the beginning of drying very wet products, it probably makes sense to open the damper a couple of times in order to release the actively escaping steam. Or you can ignore everything and trust the machine, which generally does an excellent job of determining the drying time.

Result: excellent .

Once again, we were convinced of the adequacy of automatic drying: the products do not overdry, which can be critical for taste. You can always bring it to the desired degree of drying in manual mode. It makes sense to place sweet fruits or berries on silicone sheets or parchment. Metal pallets are cleaned from the remnants of adhering products without problems.

Dried chicken fillet

For this test, which has already become traditional, we took a kilogram of skinned chicken breast fillets. They cut it into equal, if possible, slices and marinated in a mixture of soy sauce with a drop of wasabi, spices and crushed garlic. Marinated for about a day and a half. Then, carefully, in one layer, they laid them out on grates lined with parchment.

Dried the bird in the drying mode "in the shade". The device automatically turned off 5 hours after the start of the process, while consuming 1.42 kWh. The chicken pieces turned out to be transparent, the slices were hard and flexible at the break.

Result: excellent .

We entrusted the process of drying chicken fillet to automatic mode and did not fail. The dehydrator again pleased with its abilities.

conclusions

Dehydrator L'equip IR-D5 pleasantly surprised us. Elegant appearance, relatively small size and decent capacity at the same time, low noise level make it possible to use the device even in a small kitchen. The simple design and simple operation, combined with the intelligence of the device, as well as small details, such as the air filter, the inner surface of the stainless steel damper, the convenient shape of the gratings, are admired by the designers of the dehydrator. The red spectrum lamp, which produces low-temperature infrared radiation with a very long wavelength, simulates drying "under the sun". This operating mode combines infrared and convection drying modes.

Operation of the device, to put it mildly, is simple. We praise once again the automatic mode: with it, the user's participation in the drying process is only to load the products and unload the finished ones. Now you can safely leave the appliance and leave the house without fear that the products will dry out. In order to save on electricity bills, you can use the device at night. It is not necessary to understand all the intricacies and secrets of dehydration to obtain a satisfactory result. No need to guess with temperature and time, looking into the dehydrator every hour. Drying throughout the volume of the inner chamber is uniform.

We have been looking for at least something that can be attributed to the minuses. We will not mention the price here, because the device is really unique and extremely comfortable to use. Rather, to the comments, rather than to the minuses, one can attribute the fogging of the display and the accumulation of condensate on the door during the dehydration of very wet products. By the way, during a visual inspection, we had doubts about the effectiveness of moisture removal through small ventilation holes on the inside of the chamber. This means that our suspicions were justified: the withdrawal at the beginning of the process is not effective enough. However, if the apples were dried at night, without our control, we, quite possibly, would not have noticed the appearance of condensate in the process, because this fact did not affect the drying result.

The opaque lid helps to solve energy saving issues, but does not allow you to observe the process. Drying control, especially when using the Auto mode, is not necessary, but it's interesting to see what happens inside the chamber and what stage of dryness the products have reached!

pros

  • elegant appearance and relatively compact size
  • economy
  • the presence of two drying modes: with an infrared emitter (“in the sun”) and traditional convection (“in the shade”)
  • automatic drying
  • low noise
  • excellent results when using the automatic drying mode

Minuses

  • very high price of the device
  • fogging of the electronic display when dehydrogenating very wet products
  • inability to monitor the drying process due to the opacity of the hinged door
