History of Moscow State Technical University named after. N.E. Bauman is the history of the development of scientific and technical thought of our Motherland, a chronicle of technical progress, training of highly qualified personnel. Bauman residents made a significant contribution to the development of domestic and world science and technology. Among his students are world-famous scientists, engineers, designers, and statesmen.

The basis for such success was laid over the almost two-century history of the university, in a combination of fundamental training and practical training in the specialty based on modern achievements of science and technology, and the high competence of the scientific and teaching staff.

The origins of the Faculty of Physics go back to the 1830s, when they began to teach physics, mathematics and other natural science disciplines. However, only in 1933 did the need arise for the then Moscow Mechanical Engineering Institute named after. N.E. Bauman (MMMI) to form a general technical faculty that would provide a high level of natural science training in all faculties. The faculty existed until 1938, and only in 1964 with the order of the rector Professor Leonid Pavlovich Lazarev in the structure of the Moscow Higher Technical School. N.E. Bauman, the general technical faculty (OT) was re-established.

The faculty is graduating - training of highly professional personnel is open in the specialties “Applied Mathematics”, “Mathematics and Computer Science”, “Technical Physics”.

The faculty is actively working to increase the number of students in physics and mathematics. Since 2011, student enrollment has more than doubled. Training of students in the field of “Mathematics and Computer Science” is open.

The departments are headed by prominent scientists and experienced teachers who have worldwide recognition. Unique theoretical and experimental research is carried out in scientific laboratories, which attract a new generation of Baumanians. Many of them discover a thirst for new knowledge and a talent for research already in their first years.

These days, consultation centers will operate in the halls of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors of the Educational and Laboratory Building, where visitors can find out:

The Moscow Physical Society, traditionally, since 1992, once a year holds a competition of works of young physicists. Scientific works in various sections of physics by young scientists, students and graduate students whose age does not exceed 26 years are accepted for the competition.

The conference-competition of young physicists will be held with the support of the “Russian Academic Foundation” Foundation for the Support and Development of Domestic Higher Education. Time and place -April/May 2019 in the Column Hall of the Physical Institute named after. P.N. Lebedev RAS(Moscow, Leninsky Prospekt, 53, main building, 3rd floor. A distinctive feature of the department’s graduates is their ability to independently or as part of a team develop application software for mathematical modeling of complex systems.

The department conducts admission and training at two faculties: “Fundamental Sciences” (FN) and “Aerospace” (AK). Students of the department at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering undergo continuous research and production practice throughout their studies at the base enterprise - one of the leading Russian aerospace enterprises - JSC VPK NPO Mashinostroeniya, created by academician V.N. Chelomey. Some of the first graduates of the department work in management positions at this enterprise.

The main scientific directions of the department are:

• modeling of new materials, composite materials and nanostructures;
• development of software for 3-D geometric modeling, computer graphics, visualization of scientific research, generation of complex meshes, automation of complex calculations;
• supercomputer modeling of aero-gasdynamic and thermophysical, thermomechanical processes;
• development of software for solving problems of pattern recognition in various applications (processing of radar images, thermal imaging, processing of results of electroseismic diagnostics of minerals and others);
• modeling the reliability and safety of technical systems (elements of space stations, nuclear reactors, etc.);
• intelligent data processing and modeling in economics and social systems;
• modeling in continuum mechanics.

The Scientific and Educational Center “Supercomputer Engineering Modeling and Development of Software Systems” (REC “SIMPLEX” MSTU named after N.E. Bauman) was created on the basis of the department. The supercomputer industry is currently experiencing rapid development; the introduction of supercomputers is leading to a revolutionary change in the engineering design process and the processing of large volumes of data. The main employees of the REC "SIMPLEX" are graduates of the Physics-11 department, some of whom have a candidate's degree in physical and mathematical sciences. Students of the department are very actively involved in the activities of the REC.

The department has postgraduate courses in the specialties 05.13.18 “Mathematical modeling, numerical methods and software packages”,05.13.01 “System analysis, management and information processing (by industry)” and 01.02.0 5 " Mechanics of liquid, gas and plasma".

The department is active internationally together with a number of European universities: Brunel University, Keele University (UK), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), University of Saint-Etienne (France), Free University of Brussels (Belgium), Humboldt University (Germany). There are student and faculty exchange and internship programs with these universities.

Graduates of the department differ from graduates of other universities in their good knowledge in the field of mathematics and mechanics, experience in developing applied software, as well as the ability to solve applied engineering problems, which is highly valued by employers and provides graduates of the department with good employment in various fields of the economy: from enterprises in the military-industrial sector , to insurance companies, banks, consulting firms, government agencies.
