As for the skills, they are no less colorful and original than additional weapons. For example, the cute girl Cindy knows how to build a real barricade in the shape of... a healthy bear. But Papi’s skill can be envied even by Sam Fisher himself and Agent 47 at the same time: this character can disguise himself as some kind of box or barrel, getting the opportunity to take his opponent by surprise. These are part of the active skills, but there are also passive ones.

These usually benefit not just you, but your entire team. For example, the above-mentioned Cindy can significantly increase the running speed of all her colleagues in arms, and Natalie can provide the team with the ability to see enemies even through walls for five seconds. Lady generally has an auto-aim, and Rhino has a powerful minigun.

Of course, all these skills are very specific, and therefore the balance of the game could suffer along with them. The last two examples are generally extremely effective in battle, for example. But the authors, it seems, also understood this, and therefore the skills are used only in one mode - “The Art of War”. This is the same classic “Demolition” (in which one team must blow up one of the targets with a bomb or kill enemies, and the other must prevent its opponents from doing this), but it differs precisely in the ability to use the unique abilities of the characters.

We couldn’t do without the classic Demolition, in general, it’s very interesting what else the developers will please us with for release. But already, Battle Carnival definitely doesn’t suffer from a lack of gameplay variety, and that’s encouraging.

What makes the gameplay interesting?

Considering how the game stands out for its features, it won’t take long to forget about its main essence - this is a very dynamic, eventful shooter in which matches do not last long, but are extremely intense, not allowing players to even really take a breath, at least in the case of the most popular so far is “Dezmatch”. No agonizing waits: you were killed - please be revived in 5 seconds and go back into battle.

The maps are all relatively small, and therefore if the quota of players is completely filled, a complete meat grinder reigns here, few people manage to survive for more than a minute. There is a carnage on literally every corner and you can’t find peace anywhere, despite the interesting terrain with an abundance of shelters implemented in one way or another. To kill an enemy you don’t have to put in a lot of effort: what’s more, the enemy only needs a couple of successful hits, and if it’s in the head, then the opponent is killed instantly.

All maps have their own flavor: they look very different, here you have a fish market on the seashore, and the foot of a volcano, and a small town with cramped streets, there is even the “Library” map, beloved by many, which migrated to Battle Carnival straight from Point Blank. And so the surroundings are very different, and they are schematically different from each other, thanks to which the gameplay on them is not inherently repeated.

The shooting mechanics are implemented well, some may think that the recoil is not strong enough, but do not forget the positioning of Battle Carnival: no one intended to make it a new Battlefield so that it would be super realistic, they tried to make it an extremely fun, dynamic shooter that would break the established stereotypes in this genre and would successfully perform the key function of absolutely any game - entertain the players.

The main thing is that the new game does not step on the rake of its predecessor, which, in the pursuit of profit/donations, has come to selling helmets that protect the heads of its customers from headshots - this is already a huge imbalance of the balance, which is difficult to compensate for in any way. Conclusion and results

The developers from Zepetto managed to prepare a very high-quality product - this can be judged now, several months before the full release. As we noted above, the most important thing for any game is to entertain players, and Battle Carnival copes with this task brilliantly. It has no obvious shortcomings so far, except that I would like a more clear system for selecting opponents. It’s not very fair when a beginner player with a zero level is given an opponent with a forty level, or even higher.

At this rate, many may lose their desire altogether if they are killed faster than they can figure out what’s what. Let’s hope that after the full release, which, by the way, is planned for December of this year, gamers will encounter equal opponents in the local arenas, and not seriously superior or significantly inferior in skill level, because this has a very negative impact on the interestingness of the game.

But overall, the project seems very promising, and its authors themselves understand this; the developers are ambitious and know well how to make a real hit. If Battle Carnival avoids the “rake” that Point Blank suffered in its time, its popularity will not fade away for very long. There is literally everything here to attract players - a nice looking picture, no bugs or technical problems, already in beta there were no difficulties with the lack of players on different maps in different modes, the battles themselves are very entertaining, varied and fun.
