The Georgian ascetic Elder Gabriel (Urgebadze 1929 + 11/2/1995), a holy fool, barefoot, in torn clothes, in a kamilavka and with a tiara on his head, taught: “In recent times, people will be saved by Love, Humility, Kindness. Further, as we recall, the text reads: The fair-haired clan with his assistants will finally defeat Ismail and they will receive Semicholmia with special advantages [in him]. Then violent internecine warfare will begin... The seizure of Constantinople by aliens will be easy, but, having occupied the city, the victors will face opposition from the countries of the hostile camp, which will require them to give up part of their privileges. And since the war that has arisen from here will no longer bear a Christian-Muslim, but an inter-Christian character, then it is said about "internecine warfare."
And a threefold voice will sound: “Stop, stop with fear ...!” Supernatural intervention, curbing the deadly hatred of opponents, is a sign of God's mercy amid the innumerable troubles of war. When those drunk with a reckless thirst for blood come to their senses, their repentant cry will move the humane and merciful God to save those who trust in Him from fratricidal slaughter - a direct product of our illusory "civilization".
And hurrying to the right-hand country, you will find a husband there, truly wondrous and strong. This one will be your ruler, for he is dear to Me, and you, having received him, do My will.
Following the miraculous end of fratricide, the Lord indicates where to find the true chosen one and leader, who, with His help, will bring peace and universal harmony into life.
KUTLUMUSH MANUSCRIPT
Another no less remarkable text of a prophetic nature, previously dated 1053, was found in the Kutlumush monastery on the Holy Mountain. It contains twenty-four predictions, most of which have also come true by now:
1. the great European war;
2. the defeat of Germany, the catastrophe of Russia and Austria;
3. the triumph of the Greeks over the Hagarians;
4. the defeat of the Hellenes from the Hagarians, supported by the peoples of the West;
5. the beating of the Orthodox;
6. the great confusion of the Orthodox peoples;
7. the invasion of the alien army from the Adriatic Sea. Woe to all who live on earth, ready hell;
8. short-term appearance of a great husband among the Hagarians;
9. new European war;
10. the union of Orthodox peoples and Germany;
11. the defeat of the French by the Germans;
12. the revolt of the Hindus and the deposition of India from England;
13. belittling England to its own limits;
14. the victory of the Orthodox and the beating of the Hagarians;
15. worldwide confusion;
16. widespread despair on earth;
17. the struggle of the seven powers for Constantinople. Three-day extermination. The victory of the strongest power over the other six;
18. the alliance of the six powers against the victor; new three-day mutual extermination;
19. cessation of hostility by God's intervention in the person of the Angel and the transfer of Constantinople to the Hellenes;
20. the conversion of the Latins to the intact Orthodox faith;
21. the spread of the Orthodox faith from east to west;
22. the horror and awe that she instilled in the barbarians;
23. the removal of the Pope from spiritual authority and the establishment of a single Patriarch for the entire European world;
24. in the fifty-fifth year - the end of the tribulations. In the seventh [summer] there is no accursed one, there is no exile, for he returned to the arms of the Mother [about her children who rejoice]. This let it be, this let it be done. Amen. Amen. Amen. "Az I am Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last "(). The end is one truly Orthodox herd. Servant of Christ, the true God.
Those who wish to interpret this prophecy from the point of view of "common sense" will get lost in the endless labyrinths. And therefore one should prefer to explain it from the standpoint of faith, for what seems impossible to man is "possible with God" (see).
The dating of the Kutlumush text in 1053 is inaccurate and is most likely associated with a scribal's mistake, which does not diminish the importance of most of the predictions - quite specific and realized throughout the 20th century. Resorting to somewhat different symbols and images, this prophecy is nevertheless very close in content to the previous one. We will leave aside the fulfilled part of it, since the facts related to it are generally known. As for the burning topic of the third world war or the planetary nuclear threat, will not the "little leaders" of this world take advantage of all the means that human madness has invented and handed them over to a common ruin? But any mistake here is fraught with the death of the universe! But the "mighty of the world" do not retreat, despite the protesting voice of the majority of the peoples.
And even some inconvenience of this prophecy (noticed mainly where it is said about events that are expected today in the future) does not cancel, in our opinion, its obvious inspiration. Symbols, allegories, reticence, frequent disregard for chronological connections - these are the usual framing of a prophetic word, the truth of which is fully revealed only at the end of the events it reveals. The expressions “woe to all living on earth, ready hell” and “widespread despair on earth” cannot refer to the situation before 1950, when nuclear weapons emerged. For conventional weapons, however perfect, did not pose a worldwide threat and could not cause "general despair." But today, when in a matter of seconds it is possible to destroy the entire planet several times, the prediction of centuries ago is coming true before our eyes. The main sign of the modern era should be rightly recognized as the third world war, for the great calamities, about which everyone around, is approaching. The first of the prophecies we have examined (the inscription on the Constantine tomb) speaks of "cruel internecine warfare", the second - of two "three-day mutual destruction", when the blood poured into the sea reaches, as we will see from other texts of similar content, the Golden Horn. And the signs of their imminent execution are already evident.
PROPHECY OF SAINT ANDREW YURODIVOY
Associated with the name of another divinely inspired husband and dating back to the first third of the 10th century, this prophecy is in full agreement with the previous ones and makes up for much of what they are silent about. It says, in particular, that Constantinople will be delivered into the hands of Muslims and the brilliant Byzantine civilization will come to an end, but it will rise in its former splendor after two terrible upheavals that will coincide with the world war sent for the sins and retreats of our time. Answering a question from one of the disciples about the future of the capital, the saint reveals to him what, by the grace of God, he was worthy to foresee.
Here are the most significant portions of this prophecy.
“This city, which is appointed to rule over many peoples, will be unbeatable for foreigners ... But there is a rumor that it will open internal access to the Hagarian clan and that great multitude of people will kill with the sword. But I say that a fair-haired clan, whose name is enclosed in the eighteenth of twenty-four letters, combined in the correct order, will also appear, and the feet of sinners will step on the covered floors. Woe to them because of the two branches, whose swords are like the wind, and the sickles that cut the copper-red ear into the harvest, do not turn back and leave nothing behind them ... In the last days, the Lord God will raise the king from poverty, and he will enter [into city] with great truth. And there will be peace in the likeness of the world that was in the days of Noah, for they will no longer fight. And because there will be no war on earth, they will forge their swords into plows, sickles and [other] agricultural implements. And [the king] will turn his face to the east and humble the sons of Hagar, for our Lord is angry with them for the iniquity of Sodom, which they do. Many of them will receive Holy Baptism and will be held in high esteem by that pious tsar, while he will destroy the rest, burn them with fire and give [any other] violent death. In those days, everything will be restored, and Illyricum [will become part of the state of] the Romans, and Egypt will find its gates. And [the king] will put his right hand on the surrounding nations, and conquer the fair-haired race, and conquer his haters. And the kingdom will hold for thirty-two years, but taxes and gifts for twelve years will not be collected. He will restore the ruined treasuries and rebuild the saints' temples. In those days there will be no litigation, nor the unrighteous with the wicked, for the face of [the king's] all the earth will be terrified, and he will compel all the sons of men out of fear of him to be chaste, and among his nobles he will destroy every transgressor ... Then there will be joy and gladness , and many blessings from the land and the sea will come about. And it will be as it was in the days of Noah ... When his dominion is over, the beginning of evil will come. "
So, here is predicted the conquest of Constantinople by Christians and, what is especially important, the reign of a pious king, acting by God's command and putting an end to the worldwide turmoil. The temporary triumph of the Christian faith and the granting of peace to long-suffering nations are briefly described, so that they too could prepare for the great battle with the coming Antichrist. For, according to the fathers, we do not hasten the coming of the Antichrist only when we do not participate in the sins and iniquities of our time by deed or sympathetic thought.
This period appears to the saint as the ultimate realization of every good and spiritual truth, that last "golden age" for which subsequent generations will be incredibly yearning. For it will be followed by the beginning, middle and end of calamities, when the prophetic word of the Theologian comes true: "Woe to those who dwell on the earth ... for the devil has come down to you in great rage." ().
PROPHECIES OF METHODY OF PATARSKY
Two holy men are known under the name Methodius of Patarsky. The first suffered martyrdom in R. X. 312, the other, to which the prophecies cited below go back, lived in the ninth century.
“And the fair-haired race will have Semicholmia for five or six [months]. And they will plant potions in it, and many of them will be destroyed in vengeance for the saints. And the predetermined three [terms?] Will rule in the East, and after this a certain autocratic will rise up, and after him another, a fierce wolf ... divided into four principalities, and the first will winter near Ephesus, the second near Melagia, the third near Pergamum, and the fourth near Bithynia. Then the peoples inhabiting the southern country will be revolted, and Philip the Great with eighteen tribes will rise, and they will flock to Semicholmia, and begin a battle that has never happened before, and rush inward through its gates and passages, and human blood will flow like a river, so that deep the sea will become cloudy with blood. Then the ox will roar and the dry stone will cry. Then the horses will stand and a voice from heaven will be heard: “Stop! Stop! Peace to you! Enough revenge on the unfaithful and obscene! Go to the land of Semicholmia, and you will find a husband there, standing near two pillars in great humility, luminous and righteous, enduring great poverty, severe in appearance, but meek in spirit "... And the command from the Angel will be announced:" Make him king and put the sword in his right hand and say: “Take courage, John! Strengthen and conquer your adversaries. " And, having received the sword from the Angel, he will smite the Ishmaelites, Ethiopians and every unbelieving generation. Under him, the Ismailites will be divided into three parts, and he will kill the first part with the sword, baptize the second part, and conquer the third part, which is in the East, by force. And upon his return [from the East] the treasuries of the earth will be opened, and all will be enriched, and they will not have a beggar, and the earth will give its fruit a hundredfold. And they will hammer all weapons into plows and sickles. And his reign will be thirty-five years. "
So, the first onslaught of the "fair-haired race" will be swift and successful, and it is clear that the newcomers will mysteriously serve the Providence of God, for through them the times of desecration will be put to an end. The five-month period required for the "potions" planted on Semicholmia to ascend may mean the time during which the forces of the allied powers, secretly called "Philip the Great with eighteen tribes", will be prepared for the march. The above-mentioned places of military camps indicate a colossal number of aliens, which, according to other prophecies, will reach two hundred million. The sins and wickedness of these peoples induce them to offer sacrifices on the altars of materialism and humanism. Let us recall the words of the holy Apostle Paul: “Their senseless heart was darkened. Calling themselves wise, they became mad ... and served the creature instead of the Creator ... And as they did not care to have God in their minds, they gave them up to a perverse mind - to do lewdness. "(Wed). The fact that all these events - and among them the heavenly intervention that puts an end to the terrible human destruction - will take place in and around Constantinople indicates a special providence of God for him. But no matter how much the promise of future prosperity may comfort us, the reader involuntarily shudders at the description of the horrors of war and at the realization that they are the product of an "advanced" civilization with its cult of "freedom." "The ox will cry, and the dry stone will cry ...". Of course, these mournful words, like many other allegories of prophetic utterances, should not be taken literally, but it is fair to see in them indications of an unheard-of measure of troubles that will be allowed to the utterly corrupted human race. To understand this even better, let us recall the text of the Revelation of John: “And Babylon the great will be remembered before God to give him a cup of wine for the fury of His anger ... for her sins have reached heaven, and God remembered her iniquities. Repay her as she also repaid you, and repay her twice according to her works; in the bowl in which she made wine for you, make it twice as much. How much she was glorified and lived luxuriously, so much torment and sorrow give her ... For this one day executions will come upon her, and weeping and hunger, and she will be burnt with fire, because the Lord God who judges her is strong ” ().
"Babylon" in the above fragment appears, in our wretched understanding, not as a geographical or historical concept but as an image monstrous lie, completely successful in turning humanity away from the revealed truth. Of course, every kind of evil is delusion and distance from God. But here we have an image of universal evil that has reached the limit of its capabilities. Indeed, humanity has never wandered in such darkness and reached such a depth of corruption as it does today. Sin and love of sin have always existed and in many cases were expressed in terrible crimes. But these manifestations of sinfulness, while not being a mass phenomenon, have always been more or less isolated and hidden. The tragedy and perniciousness of today's situation is that evil has become universal, and its manifestations are infinitely arrogant and cynical; moreover, they are often extolled as heroic deeds and virtues, and are honored with high awards.
Special attention should be paid to the reason for this all-encompassing evil, symbolically designating it as the planting in the human heart of a “other” deity, whose deeds are contrary to the truth and judgment of God. For for the people of our unfortunate age, the dry and sterile “scientific knowledge” coupled with the notorious “humanism” has truly become the “body of death” (cf.), pressing them to the ground. Humanism gave birth to materialism, materialism - atheism, atheism - communism. Communism, in its turn, gave rise to nihilism, relativism and everything that can be produced alive by a deceased man-a God-fighter.
Having rejected the Absolute, man became flat and one-dimensional. From this moment on, there is nothing forbidden for him. You can endlessly indulge in all new pleasures, whether it be the reckless satisfaction of animals and downright criminal inclinations or endless games of mind and imagination. With the mortification of conscience, which regulates their behavior as rational and moral beings, people descend to the level of purely biological being, which is controlled by instinct. Humanism - especially in the form that the modern West professes - undermined faith in God, proclaiming man "the measure of everything." Putting the intrinsic value of man and "positive" knowledge at the forefront, this ideology calls to consider the world and human life exclusively in the light of "scientific" theories.
Only the prophet Jeremiah can mourn these impending disasters, and we fall silent, not daring to add anything.
PROPHECY OF SAINT TARASIUS, PATRIARCH OF KONSTANTINOPOLSKY
This holy man, who occupied the Patriarchal throne of Constantinople from 784 to 806, is known, among other things, as the initiator of the VII Ecumenical Council and as the author of the following prophecy:
Internecine strife will arise, and the entire unfaithful clan will perish. And then a holy king will arise, in whose name [letter]Ι is initial and Σ is final.
Thus, here, as in previous prophecies, a terrible fratricidal war is predicted and the appearance of a righteous king named John, who has the anointing of the Lord Himself.
THE PROPHECIES OF THE EMPEROR LION THE WISE
The son of Basil I the Macedonian, the Byzantine emperor the Wise, reigned in 886-911. He owns a number of poetic and moralizing texts, including those of a prophetic nature, and among them the following:
About the many-verbal tsar living on the outskirts of Byzantium [Constantinople], poor and [God] chosen, famous and unknown. The true king ... expelled by the people from his dwelling ... will appear at the end of the [dominion] of the Ishmaelites ... at the third hour ...
It befits him to open himself in the radiance of light and [other] signs. This will be called from an Angel who has the image of a man-eunuch in white robes, who will cry in his ear, seized by sleep: "Rise, sleeping, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."(Wed). For He calls you to shepherd a great people. " And another time he says: "Go away, secret one, and do not hide, for many are looking for you." And for the third time he will hand him the tablets of stone with the inscription of two laws, of which the first is "Take revenge [on the enemies] and give the people everything they need", the second - "Exterminate the wickedness, punish those who do the deeds of Sodom with fire. Above this, drive out the vicious priests from the temple, and put those who are worthy again in the service of God. " That king has special signs. On the nail of his right foot he has a light spot, and on both shoulder blades there is a purple-shaped mark of a cross ... the name of this king is hidden among the nations. And the Lord will lay His hand on his head.
In those days people will endure a great crowding, and bow their faces down, and dust the head with ashes, and cry out to the Lord, God of heaven and earth. Then the Lord will hear their prayer, and will turn His hearing to those who inhabit the earth, and will send His Archangel in human form, and he will settle on the islands. And he will find the saint of God, hitherto invisible and unknown. Hidden and unknown to all, known only to the Lord and to himself, he will be from the inheritance of the prince and from the royal family ... holy to God. This will be revealed and anointed at the end of days by God Himself ...
Will open the same way. For three days and three nights a star will appear at the top of the city, and not one of the planets, but similar to the one that appears on Christmas Day of Spasovo. And for three days the voice of the messenger will sound, calling upon the hoped-for [king] to open himself. Then everyone, marveling at the sight and thunderous cry of the messenger, in frenzy and fear, rekut in response that this one they are looking for is unknown to them. But after that, looking up to heaven, they will cry out "Lord, have mercy!" and, falling down, with tears of sorrow they will dust the head, God will hear, he will look upon them with a merciful eye, and for the sake of His remaining chosen ones will reveal the proclaimed one.
The firmament of the sun in the clouds, the size of a threshing circle for six oxen, will open to the eyes of all, and a purple-shaped cross will come down from there, and on its left side an arc will appear, given to our forefathers as a sign of the covenant. And indicating the chosen one by all, this arc will spread through the southern limit of the heavenly circle, and its lower edge will be over the place where the hut of the true king is found. Then the people, giving glory to God, will rush with lamps and olive branches to the place marked by the edge of the arc, and, having received with great honor the aged offspring of the royal family, they will wish at least by cunning to lead him into great Zion ... And the messenger publicly, but not revealing himself, he will exclaim from heaven: "Is this one pleasing to you?" People, beating themselves on the chest and raising their hands to the sky, crying and groaning recut: "She is truly pleasing, Lord, for You gave him to us!" And bowing down to the king, they will lead him into great Zion. And when he prays, the sealed gates will open ... All who are around will gather with great trepidation and, having elevated him to an elevated place, will be declared king and so in the middle of the night will be led into the palace, accompanied by two Angels in the guise of Belorussian men. These Angels will utter to his very ears, instructing every work that must be undertaken.
This prophecy can be seen as a continuation of the previous ones. Compiled at a completely different time, it describes in more detail both Divine intervention in the course of the war and the confusion of the human race. According to him, God's chosen king will not come out of the depths of a perishing society, but, hidden for the time being by the good providence of God, will be revealed in his hour, and this should not be astonished, for glorious miracles are due to God. Following the example of the peoples and prophets of antiquity, he will be not only a wise and skillful ruler, but also a storehouse of other supernatural gifts, without which it is impossible, at least for a while, to overcome the hopeless chaos of those times.
This man called by God will come not as an ordinary "prince" of people and not even as one of the ancient prophets who endured slander and sorrow from his contemporaries, but as a direct forerunner of "He who comes with glory to judge the living and the dead." He will come boldly, as the messenger of the Lord of all, to proclaim the command of God, to fulfill His will and to punish the sons of the evil one, who tormented the faithful for many centuries and, like tares, suppressed the wheat until the very day of the harvest.
PROPHECIES OF THE PRIEST MARTYR COSMAS OF ETHOLIA
The above texts are in many respects consonant with the prophecies of later times, which belong to the holy martyr Cosmas of Aetolia (1714–1779). Monastic tonsure of the Holy Mountain of Athos, with the blessing of the hierarchy he bypassed greek lands strengthening Orthodox faith, piety and national identity of the Greeks in the difficult years of Turkish oppression. Saint Cosmas died as a martyr at Kalikondasi (Epirus) in August 1779. Having the blessed gift of prophecy, he predicted, among other things, the future destinies of our people, many scientific and technical achievements of our time and, what is especially important, the restoration of Constantinople as a reigning city, as the prophets who preceded him spoke about.
Saint Cosmas announced the coming events in a special way. So, the prediction of the liberation of Greece from the Turks is clothed in his paintings of the last times and Armageddon. Below are those of his prophecies, which, in our opinion, will certainly come true in due time:
1.If the dispute is resolved by war, you will suffer great ruin. Of the three cities, one will survive;
2. blood will be shed in the city, in which a three-year-old bull will swim;
3. when thousands of sailing ships appear in the Greek waters, the fate of the city will be decided;
4. along three narrow gorges - Kra, Krasi and Muzina - a large army will advance to the city. It would be good for women and children to go to the mountains. If they ask you how far the city is, do not tell the truth, for they will harm you. This army will not reach the city, for in the middle of the way they learn that the war is over;
5. You will see people flying in the sky like starlings and throwing fire on the ground. Everyone who will live then will run to the cemetery and start shouting: “Come out, dead people, so that we, living ones, come in !;
6. How many will be those whom mothers give birth to prematurely from their fear!
7. after the war, people will run a half-hour way to find a person and make him [their] brother; "
8. happy who will live after the general war. He will eat with a silver spoon.
We do not present the fulfilled predictions of the saint, as well as those not directly related to our topic. In the above, we see a striking similarity with those discussed above. As there, so here it is said about the horrors of the war, about its last phase and catastrophic consequences and, finally, the "golden age" of the post-war period.
EPILOGUE
Comparison of the texts of the Holy Scriptures about the Antichrist and the last times forced us in some cases to engage in their interpretation, since the signs of the times mentioned there are now clearly found both in human affairs and in the spiritual and moral atmosphere. In order not to dwell on various judgments, opinions and guesses, let's say a few words about the number 666, which invariably comes to the fore in any discussion of the eschatological topic. The true meaning of this number (in the sense given to it by the Revelation of John the Theologian, where it is “the number of the beast,” that is, the Antichrist) is unknown to us. He will be understood only by those who happen to live in the terrible days of his reign and accept or reject the Antichrist seal. Until then, according to our understanding, it is no more than one of the signs of its forthcoming appearance. In asserting this, we do not contradict the spirit and letter of Holy Scripture, where the number 666 is symbolically associated with the name under which the Antichrist will appear as a historical person. But since, according to the fathers, many names can correspond to this number, the eighteenth verse of the thirteenth chapter of Revelation still represents an insoluble riddle for us.
But besides the number 666, there are many other evidences that the antichrist's "time is near" (). Why are Christians of our day, neglecting them, concerned only with numerical symbolism? If "The mystery of lawlessness" nowadays it is not just acting, but with general indifference it imperiously invades the life of the world, is it good to pay so much attention to the name of the "wicked" and through this involuntarily invoke him again and again? Let us recall the words of the fathers, informing us that the time of the Antichrist, although it is close, will be preceded by many events, which he secretly announces. So, our Lord, along with "Wars and war rumors"(Compare), speaks of the worldwide disasters caused by the sinful state of mankind, which the Apostle Paul generally calls "apostasy" (Compare), apostasy. And the extent to which this apostasy will spread is explained to us - each, as far as it was revealed to him from above - by the later fathers. On the basis of their predictions and our own observations, we can say that by now it has been established in all areas of life, and the consequences of its approval are beyond doubt. As soon as the image and measure of the predicted apostasy have been fully realized in modern mankind, then God's intervention will not slow down. And if, according to the word of the Lord, "Not one iota or not one feature will pass from the law until everything is fulfilled"(), then it will be fulfilled, no doubt, and what at different times was proclaimed from above to His faithful servants.
Summing up the many guesses and fears about the fate of the world and man, let us ask the most important thing: what is the danger of the eschatological perspective for the faithful and should they be afraid of it? We know that everything "Decaying and aging close to destruction"() and everything that has a beginning certainly has an end. Therefore, the ultimate destiny of the world is not a paradox, but the fulfillment of the destiny. If a person, as a particle of the created universe, is born in due time, reaches maturity, grows old and dies, then the entire creation, obeying the Creator's command, will end its existence in due time. And if these dates are destined to be fulfilled in our day, who can resist it? But isn't our true end "Eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord"()? Yes, we cannot but be intimidated by the expected calamities and the coming of the Antichrist. But this fear is of a different kind than that of those who are far from faith and are wholly rooted in the present age. The truly faithful have nothing to fear. Having removed the vanity, submitting themselves to the law of abstinence, they in fact rejected the world. "With passions and lusts"(), firmly contain in memory the words of the Apostle that "Now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed", and fully apply their continuation to themselves: "So, let us reject the works of darkness and put on the weapons of light"(). Knowing about the approaching end, they are even more confirmed in faith and works of salvation.
And were there times when the presence of the antichrist spirit in the world did not remind of itself as a deed? And if the main Antichrist appears only at the end of days, then his forerunners and helpers acted in any era, being, like him, the cause of the greatest disasters. Indeed, will the coming liar add so much to the countless upheavals that have already occurred or are about to occur?
