What can you see in one of the main museums in Moscow with just an hour at your disposal? A short guide through the halls of the Tretyakov Gallery in Lavrushinsky Lane.

Correct location

First, determine the exact address: the Tretyakov Gallery is a large museum with many buildings and branches. The main building, which houses a collection of Russian art until the beginning of the 20th century, is located at 10 Lavrushinsky Lane; in the neighboring house - the Engineering Building - temporary exhibitions are held and lectures are given. To see the art of the XX-XXI centuries, you will have to go to a completely different area of Moscow, to Krymsky Val, 10. Don't mix it up! Many other branches, including the Vasnetsov House and Golubkina's workshop, are scattered throughout the capital.

Right time

Opening hours and days off, of course, can be checked on the website. But also do not forget to check if there are school holidays now (autumn or spring, it's hard to forget about winter). On vacation days, the halls of the museum can be full of noisy school trips... What is good - in the main building of the Tretyakov Gallery in Lavrushinsky Pereulok, frenzied exhibitions are rarely held (there is no place for them), so there is no need to be afraid of queues in the style of "on Serov".

Stock up on a card

Since you are limited in time, we cross out the pleasure of aimless walks through the suite of halls. It is necessary to clearly outline the goal and lay a route to it. In addition to paper guides, you can use the layout of the halls on the museum website or use the virtual museum technology.

Stock up on a list of masterpieces

Decide which period of art you are most interested in: this building of the Tretyakov Gallery contains almost the entire history, from the Baptism of Rus to the Revolution. You can spend whole hour on Serov, or on the Itinerants, or on the Silver Age.

If you want to quickly look at the main masterpieces, then here is a rough list of the must-haves. The list is short, because the masterpieces are scattered over two floors and different halls, it will take an hour to walk through them, because you will surely be distracted by all kinds of beauty along the way.

Ground floor: "Trinity" Rublev (hall number 59)

One of the main Russian icons is located at the end of the enfilade of halls of icon painting, in the hall of Andrei Rublev. By the way, another shrine - the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God - is also located in Lavrushinsky Lane, but in a different building, in the current church of St. Nicholas in Tolmachi, which adjoins the Engineering Building from the end.

Ground floor: "Girl with Peaches" (hall number 40)

The famous portrait of Serov's brush is exhibited in the halls dedicated to art Silver Age on the same ground floor as icon painting. Also on this floor are the halls of Levitan, Polenov and Nesterov, so it is rather difficult to understand the logic of the location of the exposition. As many as two halls are assigned to Serov in the gallery.

Second floor: "The Appearance of Christ to the People" (Hall No. 10)

Alexander Ivanov's masterpiece hangs in its own room among the numerous sketches dedicated to him. The guides warn: be careful, this is one of those paintings in front of which people in this museum often faint.

Second floor: "Morning in a pine forest" (hall number 25)

A landscape with cubs can be found in the hall dedicated to Shishkin's work. Don't miss it - the canvas isn't that big. By the way, only in a museum can one appreciate the real scale of the works that we are used to seeing on screens and in books.

Second floor: "Ivan the Terrible and his son Ivan on November 16, 1581" (hall number 31)

Repin's painting is in the hall dedicated to the work of this artist. This is another painting that has a profound effect on the psyche. Therefore, in order to come to your senses, be sure to check out the museum store on the ground floor, next to the ticket office. In the Tretyakov Gallery, he is good: reproductions, postcards, notebooks, magnets and, of course, catalogs.

The house in Lavrushinsky lane in Moscow, which looks like a teremok, is not easy picture gallery- this is one of the visiting cards of the capital. The building houses exhibits from the 11th-19th centuries.

Moskovsky Art Museum, which is called the State Tretyakov Gallery, or the Tretyakov Gallery, was founded in 1856. It contains one of the world's largest collections of fine art.

Composition of the Tretyakov Gallery

The museum association, which is called the Tretyakov Gallery, is located in Moscow. The main building of the Tretyakov Gallery is located in Lavrushinsky Lane, in Zamoskvorechye. In addition to the main building, where most of the collection is located, it includes:
- Corps of Engineers, where temporary exhibitions are held;
- a building on Krymsky Val, where the art of the twentieth century is presented;
- Museum in the Church of St. Nicholas, located in Tolmachi;
- personal museums of artists.

The main building of the Tretyakov Gallery is located in Moscow at 10 Lavrushinsky Lane.

The collection at the Tretyakov Gallery is dedicated exclusively to Russian national art. This is how the gallery was conceived by its founder Pavel Tretyakov, and it has been preserved this way to this day.

How the Tretyakov Gallery appeared

The Tretyakov Gallery began with the fact that Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov acquired two paintings by Russian artists in 1856 - this was the first step towards creating the famous collection. From that moment on, the collection began to grow steadily, and the first visitors to the Moscow City Gallery of Pavel and Sergei Tretyakov were able to receive in 1867.

In 1892, Pavel Tretyakov transferred his art gallery as a gift to the capital. At that time, it collected many wonderful works including a collection of icons.

When collecting works, the founder of the Tretyakov gallery relied on his own taste. He was quite well aware of the importance of art in the cultural and socio-political life of society.

The gallery was initially located in the same building. As the collection grew, other rooms were gradually added to the mansion, which were used to store and display works. The pile of outbuildings grew and multiplied until the project of a building with a facade similar to that from a fairy tale was developed.

Currently, the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery contains over one hundred thousand works of art. The exhibits are located in the architectural complex, in Lavrushinsky lane, and in a building located on Krymsky Val. In 1995, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the State Tretyakov Gallery was classified as one of the most valuable objects Russian culture.

Ah, art, art. Vrubel, Flavitsky, Aivazovsky. And this is only a small part of the artists whose works are presented in one of the best museums in Russia. Is it possible to shoot such splendor? Can I take pictures at the Tretyakov Gallery?

The camera and the museum are incompatible?

When visiting museums and galleries, guests are very confused. Is shooting allowed or not? Sometimes it is somehow awkward and inconvenient to approach and ask the strict caretakers. And, being in the Tretyakov Gallery, everything immediately flies out of my head, and the hand itself reaches for the phone.

You can breathe out calmly! In the Tretyakov Gallery you can shoot. But you need to be careful. Taking pictures is allowed only permanent exhibitions galleries and the New Tretyakov Gallery, as well as in other buildings of the museum. If there is a temporary exhibition, photography and filming may be prohibited because copyright and intellectual property laws come into force.

There is an interesting and unique opportunity to conduct professional photography in the Tretyakov Gallery, but for this you need to contact the museum's press service.

If you are interested in what else you can and cannot do in museums (not only in the Tretyakov Gallery), then we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the Federal Law "On Museum Funds and Museums", which will tell you about all the nuances and processes in this area.

Flash is the main enemy!

One of the important reminders. Shooting is allowed, but without a flash and without the use of any special equipment (even a selfie stick, alas, is prohibited). The fact is that the light from the flash can be too dangerous and harmful for works of art. Ultimately, it can damage them and lead to "premature aging". Also, the flash distracts the staff and visitors of the museum, making it difficult for the first to follow the hall, and the second - to focus on the work of art.

  1. Many people think that famous painting I.K. Aivazovsky's "Ninth Wave" is kept in the Tretyakov Gallery, but this is a delusion! She is in the Russian Museum of St. Petersburg.
  2. If you are a fan of Crimea, and finances do not yet allow you to visit it, then we are glad to announce that in the gallery you can enjoy the paintings of I.I. Levitan from the series "Crimean Landscapes".
  3. Did you know that the museum has a loyalty program - Friends of the Tretyakov Gallery? A personal card is issued, which will delight you with pleasant bonuses for a whole year.
  4. Enjoy the art at home! In the Tretyakov Gallery you can order a digital reproduction of your favorite painting of very high quality.
  5. Save yourself time! And buy tickets electronically through the museum's official website.

We arrived at the Tretyakov Gallery, having booked a tour in advance. The schoolchildren themselves expressed a desire to get acquainted with the work of Arkhip Kuindzhi. The children were divided into two groups, each of which got its own guide. The first group was very lucky. They were met by a young, cheerful girl, Benidovskaya Anna Mikhailovna, who clearly loves her work. The guide was so positive, she tried very hard to make the students like it, so that they learn something new, so that this new remains in their memory. Nobody wanted to leave, the children looked at the paintings and paint samples with pleasure. But the second group was not at all lucky. They were greeted from the very beginning by a hostile guide, Yegorova Elena Nikolaevna, who constantly tried to humiliate them by exposing the "current young generation" to be stupid, not ready to receive information from people from "Silicon Valley", who only do what they sit in their gadgets and do nothing interested. During the excursion, phrases were constantly heard: "With my many years of experience, I know for sure that you will not be able to answer correctly ..." let's not go "," how do you know ?! "," all the young people tell me that, which, of course, is wrong. " Of course, children, whose dignity was constantly humiliated, have no desire to participate in the so-called interactive game"Guess what picture ..." was not. Instead of enjoying art, resentment was born in the children. They began to deliberately lag behind the group. We, adults, were ashamed of such a guide, who knew a lot of interesting information, but, apparently, was already so "burnt out" at her job that it was time for her to quit. An excursion for each group cost 5,000 rubles. For Moscow, the amount is probably not large, but nevertheless it turned out that the money was paid to be accused of illiteracy, ignorance and ignorance. Was it really worth going on an excursion to the capital for this ?! In addition, when the children began to discuss the exhibition among themselves, it turned out that the second group was not shown everything that the first had seen. For example, the composition and samples of paints with which paintings were painted, and films about the artist. Schoolchildren from the second group left the gallery with bad mood, dissatisfied and dissatisfied, and at home shared their feelings with their parents. Upon further conversations, it turned out that some children from our city faced a similar attitude in the gallery. It is possible that for the same reason.
We would like to wish the management of the excursion department and the gallery as a whole to pay attention to this extraordinary situation, because, despite the guide's deep knowledge, such an attitude towards children, and even more so to city guests, is clearly unacceptable!
Potential Visitors! When you book an excursion, pay attention to the names!
