Look everyone at me!
Today I work as a guide.
Wasted not a minute
I invite you to go!
Take all the knowledge on the road!
And don't forget to smile!

2 Statement of the educational problem .

Which one of you was in picture gallery? What did you see there that made a special impression on you?

Let's pretend we are in an art gallery. I am a tour guide.

3 Learning new ways of acting.

* Here is the famous painting by Zinaida Serebryakova "At Dinner". In some sources it can be seen under the title “At Breakfast.” On the canvas is a group of people (children) - several people sitting close to each other, together. The picture is made in the genre of a group portrait.

What is a group portrait?

Group portrait- a kind of portrait, which depicts three or more characters in the same environment, connected by the unity of action.

We see three children sitting at the dinner table. Zinaida Evgenievna portrayed her children. The boy who looks directly at the viewer is called Shura - that is what he was called in the family. Shura is seven years old. The boy sitting on the other side of the table is called Zhenya, he is the eldest of the brothers. He is eight years old. And finally, Tata (Tatiana). She is only two and a half years old. So, we see three pretty kids.

But let me ask you, how many people are there in the dining room?

-Who is this woman? (pause) Maybe a maid? Or maybe the hostess herself?

Who do you think she is?

And again I am addressing the audience. Tell me, is there a place at the table for the fourth person? Yes

How did you guess? ( We see an empty chair and an appliance on the table.)

It becomes obvious that this is the hand of the mistress of the house, Zinaida Evgenievna Serebryakova. Now she will pour the soup and sit in an empty seat to have lunch with her children.

4 Physical culture minute

5 Students' independent work.

Let's take a look at the faces of the children.

1. Are the children alike? Yes.

2. Who are Shura and Tata like? (listen to your neighbor's opinion).

3. Who does Zhenya look like? (listen to your neighbor's opinion).

* Yes, of course, having examined the children, we can confidently say that Shura and Tata are like their mother. Dark open eyes speak of this especially vividly. And also the shape of the nose and lips indicates the resemblance to the mother. Zhenya, even with his eyes down, looks a lot like his father. And the color of the sky - blue eyes and the oval of the face.

* Let's continue looking at the picture. Pay attention to the dining table.

Yes, the table is big enough. It is covered with a white tablecloth. Elegant white porcelain table set with blue ornaments. A soup tureen, a la carte and soup bowls, a salt shaker and other items from one set. Everything is simple and aesthetically pleasing at the same time, which indicates the good taste of the hostess of the house.

Let's go back to the kids.

Guys, pay attention to Tata's gesture. What is he talking about?

(Yes, probably, the girl does not want to eat, so she closes the plate with her plump hand. And perhaps she prefers soup, bun lying in the center of the table on a special dish)

2. Look at the chair where Tata is sitting. What do you see? Small pillow.

3Why do you think they put a pillow on Tate?

Yes, of course, Tata is still small and the dining table is too high for her, which is why Tata was offered a special pillow. This suggests that the Serebryakovs' house loves children and takes care of them, creating convenience and comfort. All children are depicted with blush on their cheeks.

4. Think about what they did before lunch? Now it is clear why Zhenya drinks water. I ran over and got excited.

The viewer can still discover many secrets hidden in the picture, which can be read indefinitely. To do this, you need to be a very attentive and interested person.

Our tour has come to an end. Thank you for the attention.

Using the working materials, compose a story about the painting and write it down. (Writing the story to a draft, and then only to a notebook)

Questions

Introductory part

What is shown in the picture?

Three children in the dining room, children of the artist

Main part

What do these children have in common?

Zhenya, Shurik, Tata, all gathered at the table for lunch

How did you see the children? What are they doing?

Zinaida Evgenievna Serebryakova grew up in an intelligent family that lived in the world of art and with early childhood decided to be an artist. Already in the children's sketches of the little girl, her own handwriting and style is manifested.

In the 1900s, Serebryakova often painted her children: Zhenya, Shura, Tanyushka and Katyusha. This time the picture At lunch, although of course, the plot is also called "At Breakfast", but more on that below. In 1914 she created a common portrait of them. At the family dinner table, three children are waiting for a meal. One boy is drinking water, the other has started eating soup, and the baby put her hand right on the plate, expecting something tasty.

All the guys are active, there is no impression that they are posing. The lively, sociable seven-year-old Shurik turned to look at his mother and see what she was doing. After all, mom is already waiting for soup, and her chair has not even been pushed back from the table.

Dreamy, slightly sluggish eight-year-old Zhenya is waiting for his grandmother to pour aromatic hot soup into his plate. Tanya, a three-year-old baby, also looks at her mother. Each child differs in his own, only his inherent facial expression and posture.

To create a portrait of a child is a difficult task for an artist. As we know, children are always fidgety and do not sit in one position, the mood changes every minute, and it is necessary at some moment to catch an interesting facial expression and fleeting mood.

Serebryakova's painting At dinner became one of the artist's most memorable paintings. Not surprisingly, the picture is often called "At Lunch", probably because of the prevailing stereotype of our thinking in Everyday life, because there is a tureen on the table.

However, it is worth noting that the artist's family lived according to the European regime: at eight o'clock in the morning, a bun and milk were served on the table, and at noon, the so-called big breakfast, reminiscent of lunch.

And the table is set more in the Western style. The table is not covered with oilcloth, as in most homes for practical purposes, but a white starched linen tablecloth.

The porcelain table service also includes an elegant tureen, similar to the dinner one in our understanding. This kitchen attribute is rarely seen in ordinary Russian kitchens. The painted tureen serves as a table decoration. It can be seen that in this family, children from the first days of their life are taught to see beauty in the whole world around them.

The rest of the items are more mundane: glasses, a milk jug, a sugar bowl ... But how appetizing freshly baked brown buns look like. That is, life goes on calmly, measuredly, without frills, but there is abundance, albeit modest.

The children are well dressed according to their age, and Tanya, who is often called Tata, is wearing a beautiful lace apron.

But Katyusha, at the time of the painting, was still very small, so she was not present at the table. Perhaps, a little later, mom will take her on handles and feed her herself.

Children at dinner amaze with the crystal purity of internal relationships, one can feel the soulfulness. However, there is no sentimentality. Serebryakova talks about the family in a surprisingly sincere and poetical way.

Few of creative personalities can compete with Serebryakova in the number of works she devoted to children. Perhaps it was motherhood that brought her so much spirituality and revealed the artist's nature - tender, subtle, loving.

Serebryakova continued the traditions of the Russian realistic school and deservedly took an honorable place in the history of art. At present, the painting "At Breakfast" is on display at the State Tretyakov Gallery.

Composition based on a painting by the artist Z.E. Serebryakova for students of the 2nd grade according to the program "School of Russia" the textbook "Russian language - 1 part". The painting shows a room. There is a table with a white tablecloth in it, and the children are sitting there. These are the artist's children: the boys Shurik and Zhenya and the girl Tata. On the table you can see a jug with compote, a decanter of water, delicious ruddy buns are on the plate. One boy holds a glass glass in his hands and drinks water. Tata and the other boy look at us. On the right, you can see Mom pouring soup or broth from a soup bowl. Previously, soup was brought to the table in such beautiful bowls.

Composition based on the painting by Zinaida Evgenievna Serebryakova "At Lunch"

Zinaida Evgenievna Serebryakova was born on November 28, 1884 in the family estate "Neskuchnoye", near Kharkov. Her father was a famous sculptor. The mother came from the Benoit family and was a graphic artist in her youth. Her brothers were no less talented, the youngest was an architect, and the senior was a master of monumental painting and graphics. His artistic development Zinaida is primarily indebted to her uncle Alexander Benois - her mother's brother and older brother. The artist spent her childhood and youth in St. Petersburg in the house of her grandfather, architect N. L. Benois and in the estate "Neskuchny". Zinaida's attention was always attracted by the work of young peasant girls in the field. Subsequently, this will be reflected more than once in her work. In 1886, after the death of his father, the family moved from the estate to St. Petersburg. All family members were busy creative activity, and Zina drew with enthusiasm.

In 1900, Zinaida graduated from a female gymnasium and entered an art school founded by Princess M.K.Tenisheva. In 1902-1903, during a trip to Italy, she created many sketches and studies. In 1905 she married Boris Anatolyevich Serebryakov, her cousin. After the wedding, the young went to Paris. Here Zinaida attends the Accademia de la Grande Chaumiere, works a lot, draws from life. A year later, the young return home. In Neskuchny, Zinaida works hard - she creates sketches, portraits and landscapes. In the very first works of the artist, one can already discern her own style, determine the circle of her interests.

In 1910, real success awaits Zinaida Serebryakova. At the 7th exhibition of Russian artists in Moscow, the Tretyakov Gallery acquires a self-portrait "Behind the Toilet" and gouache "Green in the fall". Her landscapes are magnificent - clean, bright colors, perfection of technology, unprecedented beauty of nature. During civil war, Zinaida's husband was on research in Siberia, and she and her children were in Neskuchny. It seemed impossible to move to Petrograd, and Zinaida went to Kharkov, where she found work in the Archaeological Museum. Her family estate in "Neskuchny" burned down, and all her works perished. Boris later died. Circumstances force the artist to leave Russia. She goes to France. All these years the artist lived in constant thoughts of her husband. She painted four portraits of her husband, which are kept in the Tretyakov Gallery and the Novosibirsk Picture Gallery.

In the 1920s, Zinaida Serebryakova returned with her children to Petrograd, to Benois's former apartment. Zinaida's daughter Tatyana began to study ballet. Zinaida, together with her daughter visit Mariinskii Opera House, there are also behind the scenes. Creative communication with ballerinas over 3 years is reflected in an amazing series of ballet portraits and compositions. The family is going through difficult times. Serebryakova tried to paint to order, but nothing came of it. She loved to work with nature. In the first years after the revolution, a lively exhibition activity began in the country. In 1924, Serebryakova became an exhibitor of a large exhibition of Russian visual arts in America. All the paintings presented to her were sold. With the money raised, she decides to go to Paris to arrange an exhibition and receive orders. She leaves in 1924.

The years spent in Paris did not bring her joy and creative satisfaction. She yearned for her homeland, sought to reflect her love for her in her paintings. Her first exhibition took place only in 1927. She sent the earned money to mothers and children. In 1961, two people visit her in Paris. Soviet artist- S. Gerasimov and D. Shmarinov. Later in 1965, they put on an exhibition for her in Moscow. In 1966, the last, large exhibition of Serebryakova's works took place in Leningrad and Kiev. In 1967, in Paris at the age of 82, Zinaida Evgenievna Serebryakova died.

What is shown in the picture? The painting shows a dining table. Why is the painting named so? Who is sitting at the table? We see three children sitting at the dinner table. Zinaida Evgenievna portrayed her children. How did you see the children? The boy who looks directly at the viewer is called Shura - that is what he was called in the family. He is 7 years old. The boy sitting on the other side of the table is called Zhenya, he is the eldest of the brothers. He is 8 years old. And finally, Tata (Tatiana). She is only two and a half years old. What are they doing? Shura is eating soup. Zhenya is drinking water. Tata doesn't want to eat, so she closes the plate with her plump hand. Or, perhaps, he prefers soup, a bun lying in the center of the table on a special dish. Look at the chair where Tata is sitting. What do you see? There is a pillow on the chair, the girl is small and does not reach the table, and therefore she sits on the pillow.

The children have a blush on their cheeks, they must have come running from a walk. That is why Zhenya drinks water so greedily. What's on the table? The table is large enough. It is covered with a white tablecloth. Elegant white porcelain table set with blue ornaments. Tureen, portion and soup bowls, salt shaker and other items from one set. What else did you notice in the picture? We see an empty chair and a device on the table. It becomes obvious that this is the hand of the mistress of the house, Zinaida Evgenievna Serebryakova. Now she will pour the soup and sit in an empty seat to have lunch with her children. Did the painting interest you? Everything is simple and aesthetically pleasing, which indicates the good taste of the hostess of the house.

Plan: 1. Dining room. 2. Children. 3. What is depicted on the table? 4. My impression.

a bright dining room, a fairly large dining table, covered with a white tablecloth Shura's children - 7 years old Zhenya, he is the eldest of the brothers, he is 8 years old Tata (Tatiana), she is only two and a half years old What is shown on the table? elegant white porcelain dinner service with blue ornaments; tureen, portion and soup plates, salt shaker and other items from one set; a jug with compote, a decanter of water, delicious ruddy buns are on the plate my impression There is a friendly family at the table

Approximate composition: The painting by the artist ZE Serebryakova depicts a room. The children are smart, they are sitting at the table alone, without adults. Everyone is doing well. Only Tata bent her leg under her and put her hand on the plate. There will be nowhere to put the soup. Tata is still small and does not behave very well at the table. I liked the picture. She is very beautiful.

They say that there is women's literature. And there is women's poetry. I am convinced that there is. And it cannot be otherwise. Feminine nature cannot but affect literature. And especially in poetry. And not only in literature, but also in everything that a woman's hand would not touch. And in art too. And in painting too. And it would be strange if it didn’t affect. And this does not mean that this literature or painting is qualitatively better or worse. She's just different. This is where its special charm and special appeal lies.

I repeat that it is the same in painting. I remember the paintings of the French artist Vigee-Lebrun. She has excellent portraits. And mostly, the royal persons that she created at home, in France, and here, in Russia, too. I do not need to look at the author's signature under her creations. I am convinced that a woman's hand held the brush here. And you will feel it too.
You will feel it even in to a greater extent when looking at the paintings of the remarkable artist Zinaida Serebryakova. You will feel this not only in the plots of her paintings, but these are mainly family portraits, primarily of her children in the interior, but also in the special feminine tender warmth emanating from her images. And for that love, more often than not maternal love with which these images are imbued.

I approach her paintings with special feeling. I feel a wave of calm, quiet tenderness rise from the depths of my soul. Which relaxes and confuses me. I feel somehow embarrassed by the fact that I inexorably freeze in a state of contemplative bliss. And I'm not the only one. So with the French who came with me on the excursion, I feel like they come to the same state. And they do not know who this artist is, or who these children, sitting at the dinner table, and in some tense fright turned to us, strangers, who disturbed them at dinner.

The name of the artist was Zinaida Evgenievna Serebryakova. There are a lot of famous, even great, artists who generally became artists for an unknown reason and how. Well, nothing in their position, in life and in the environment in which they grew up and were brought up, could contribute to the birth of craving for painting in them. No one could even imagine how their fate would develop in reality. Even their own parents. Only a whole chain of happy accidents consistently led each of them to who they became. But you can't say that about Zinaida. It would be monstrously unfair and strange if painting did not become her destiny. She belonged by kinship to two glorious and famous names, Benoit and Lanceray. And that says something.

*****
Zinaida Serebryakova was born a long time ago. In 1884. Count how old it would be today. I was born on the estate of my parents with the name Neskuchnoye so familiar to me, which reminds me of the place near which I spent my childhood. Neskuchny Garden along the Moskva River. But only now the estate Neskuchnoye, where the artist was born, was very far away, near Kharkov. And today it is located there on the Muromka River. Rather, the river, since it is only 31 km long. And it has nothing to do with the city of Murom. Today Neskuchnoye is a small village with an area of 0.5 square kilometers. with 90 inhabitants. The inhabitants of Neskuchny are very proud of the fact that the artist Serebryakova was born in their village. There is also a memorial plaque.

This land was called in those days Novorossiya. There was even such a curiosity when the city of Kharkov was the capital of Ukraine after the revolution. Today you yourself know what is happening there.

Where did Lanceray come from with such a not very Russian surname. Yes, nothing surprising and no. The ancestor of this surname in Russia was not a Russian. He was a major, don't be surprised, of the Napoleonic army. We all know what happened to this army. Ludwig Paul Lancer was lucky. Survived. Indescribably lucky. Because how many thousands of his compatriots were not at all lucky. They perished on the battlefields or froze to death in the fields of vast Russia. And imagine, Major Lanceray stayed in Russia. Forever and ever. And he made a wonderful career with us. Became a State Councilor. And understand this so that the general. It was the 5th grade rank in the table of ranks. And it was necessary to address him with the words of Your Highness. If this official knew how his descendants would glorify his French surname in Russia.

And Zina's mother, Ekaterina Nikolaevna Benois, was also a representative of another very famous and glorious surname. Who doesn't know her? And this surname also had French roots. The first of the Benois family came to Russia himself in 1794. This date will tell us why he left la douce France and moved to our cold lands. I think so that he, too, did not regret it. Imagine, he became the chief pastry chef for the Russian Empress Maria Feodorovna. He also married with us. On a German woman. And they had many children. Eighteen. This figure reminded me that Countess Struyskaya, whose portrait was sung by Zabolotsky, who lived at the same time, also had 18 children. A common thing in those days. Be that as it may, the pastry chef became our ancestor a large number artists who have distinguished themselves in various fields.

Well, what do you think, the girl Zina could not become an artist, having such relatives on the maternal and paternal side. Zinochka was the youngest in the family. But she did not remember her father. And how to remember. He died at the age of 39. From tuberculosis. Terrible disease... Almost forgotten today. Let us recall Chekhov, the remarkable artist Vasiliev, the empress and wife of Alexander II, who died of the same incurable disease at that time. The disease affected all classes and ages.

After that, their mother took all the children, and there were four of them, to their parents in St. Petersburg. Since then, they lived in a house that is still called Benoit's house. All her relatives lived in it. But the village of Neskuchnoye was not forgotten. Sometimes in the summer, the family returned there. Why not. The place is picturesque, a river. Noble Nest.

At the age of 16, Zina graduated from high school. Well, and the question asked by Mayakovsky, "where to study for me then, what to do." And for her, this question was not even raised. Only art, only painting. She enrolls in one private painting school. Why go there? Because there the drawing class was conducted by Repin himself. Once he himself learned the excellent drawing technique from Academician Chistyakov. There is a special conversation about him. It will certainly be necessary to return to it.

But I studied a little. One month. And not on their own. The master left this school. His student also left. And then her mother, along with other children, took her to the south of Italy. She was concerned about the health of the children. She was especially afraid of the appearance of tuberculosis in them. She considered this disease almost hereditary. She had enough of the suffering she endured during her husband's illness. But the impulse to comprehend art has already been given. Therefore, Zina studied the monuments of Roman antiquity on her own and painted excellent watercolors there. Returning to Russia two years later, she again began to study painting. This time the artist O.E. Braza.

I don't know this artist well. But in the Tretyakov Gallery I never pass by one of his creations. This is a portrait of Anton Chekhov. For me, this is the best portrait of your favorite writer. Braz painted this portrait by order of Pavel Tretyakov himself. It is clear that he would not have turned to any artist with such an order. I do not know why, but it was this portrait that the writer himself did not like. He put it this way: “If I have become a pessimist and write dark stories, then my portrait is to blame for this…”. And he also expressed himself, and so completely in his characteristic manner: "They say that I and the tie are very similar, but the expression is as if I had sniffed some shit." And the artist tried so hard. I have been writing it for two years.

Braz is not very famous today, but he was good professional artist... That same Benoit called him one of the best portrait painters of his time. It is quite possible, on his advice, Zinaida became his student.

As already mentioned, in the summer, the Serebryakovs often went to their estate Neskuchnoye in the summer. It was there that something happened to her that could not but happen to a girl of her age. Fell in love. It's okay, of course. The soul was waiting for someone. Why did you fall in love with? In his paternal cousin Boris Anatolyevich Serebryakov. The love was passionate, sincere and mutual. What are you going to do here. And there was one more comma. Zina was baptized into Catholicism, and Boris was Orthodox. The Church did not welcome such marriages in either case. But the lovers found a priest who agreed to consecrate this marriage.

Here I also have a question. Even in those days they knew that it was almost incest. And where does it lead to? This was also known. To degeneration, to spoilage of probable offspring. That is, the lovers could not help but know what danger they expose to children who were supposed to be born as a result of this marriage. I remember the story of another famous artist Toulouse-Lautrec. The same situation. He became the fruit of just such an incest. Due to developmental pathology, he became a cripple in adolescence. And then I also used a lot. And not only wine, but also drugs. And he died at the age of 36. Without producing offspring.

This is why the church has always discouraged such marriages. Zinaida took her husband's surname, which is why she became known to all of us under this beautiful surname Serebryakova. And imagine, they had four children. And it carried away. Incest did not affect their health. But they all had not simple destinies... But more on that later.

*****
And her husband had nothing to do with either art or painting. He studied at the Institute of Railways. So what? I know quite a few families, and you also know how marriages among people of the same profession, especially creative ones contrary to logic, are especially unreliable and fragile. Creative problems are added to the natural problems of adaptation of two very different human personalities. People who exist in the space of one creative field rarely agree on how to cultivate beds in the same field. And this is an additional strain in family relationships. This was not the case in the Serebryakovs' family.

Unable to continue to comprehend the art of painting in Russia, she left for Paris. And where else. In those days, it was Paris that was an artistic Mecca. It was there that a fountain of new ideas in painting gushed. In addition, almost the entire Benois family already lived there. She entered the Accademia de la Grand Chaumiere. Maybe it was the name that attracted her. The academy sounds solid. Any training provides as a prerequisite in any subject, discipline, order. I say this, as I am also a teacher by education. And systemic immersion in the subject of study. But in that Academy, this was not even close. Carelessness and freedom reigned in the sense of lack of control over the entire learning process. The future artist gained much more knowledge from visits to the Louvre and various art salons, in which Paris was not poor.

She returned to Russia in the spring of 1906. Let's remember this time. The revolutionary time began with the execution on the Palace Square on 9 bloody January. She returned to her estate in Neskuchnoye. And it certainly wasn't boring there. The children went. The first to be born was the boy Zhenya, named after his grandfather. And then a year later another boy - Sasha. And since then she has divided time between classes with children and painting. And so, in between classes with children, she wrote, probably her very famous painting... Your self-portrait.

*****
Recently, an exhibition of her works was held at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. So the main poster of this exhibition was this particular portrait. Yes, he is the most famous in the world. It's called so simply “Behind the toilet. Self-portrait ”After that she created many other paintings - genre scenes, nudity, naturally female nature, just portraits, landscapes and even still lifes, but this work is best known. Maybe because the self-portrait was the first from which the name of Serebryakova became known, her original style, which can of course be copied, even made a fake, but no one except Serebryakova can call him his own.

Among other pictures, he will grab our attention immediately. From the first second. It seems to me that the appearance of a young woman, whose eyes are so pointed at you, is almost indecently too intimate and sincere. It seems that you don't even have the right to stop in front of a portrait of a woman behind the toilet and plunge into a contemplative state. And the feeling is that the look of Zinaida Serebryakova is not addressed to you at all, but you received all the charm, all the charm emanating from her entire appearance is simply illegal. As if peeping through glass, transparent only from your side. She doesn't seem to see you at all, but admires herself. That is, he is engaged in what can only be done in private. And so it has been for how many years. And how many more people will remain amazed at the transcendental sincerity of these slightly slanted eyes. I look at the portrait and hear the famous lines from one song in my soul:

You are my breath My morning you are early
You and the sun are burning and it rains
I will exhaust myself
I will become the best. On this occasion
You wait.

*****
The world waited. And I look at the portrait and hear how she, in all her radiance of early youth and freshness, speaks to us all. Here I am. Which have. Admire me. I give. And the world accepted this gift. And I was not disappointed. And in the picture we see the morning, the very morning that is included in the history of our painting of the artist. Into the world of painting, which was already not poor in other portrait images. Find this portrait on the Internet. And you will understand even better what I wanted to say. This portrait was bought by the Tretyakov Gallery. And this was already a recognition of the young talent. And a high honor.

Oddly enough, and maybe good, the most important thing for her in life was her family, children, husband. Bohemian hangout, she was not at all interested in her. After the birth of boys, she had girls. In 1912, Tanya was born. And a year later Katenka. So, they became four children. And with this alone, Zinaida was already happy. She raised children, but did not forget painting either. She was naturally humble person. In eternal doubt.

We believe that even her first works were marked with the stamp of talent. But she is not. I didn’t believe it. I doubted everything. And it seems that her painting was just a means for her to reflect her attitude, which was all focused on her family, on children. And that's all.

Here's a look at her picture above the text. And for a long time I chose a picture from her rich work to place it at the head of this article. I chose this one. Why? Do not know. It just seemed to me that the above-described self-portrait is already known to everyone. This is, if you will, such a beautiful brand of a famous artist. Her business card. And for me, Serebryakova is interesting not only as an artist. Or rather, yes, of course, and as an artist too. But only everyone great artist expresses his soul in his creations. In their main themes. So for the artist Serebryakova main topic- this is her family, these are her children. It is in them, in her paintings, that she is her whole, her soul. That is why I chose this one, which seems to be not very good. famous painting... It's called "At Lunch"

Whom do we see in this picture. The two older boys. The elder brother Zhenya is holding a glass in his hands. His younger brother Sasha - he holds a spoon in his hand and turned to face us. And also their sister Tanya - she turned her whole face towards us. There is no fourth child. That is, it exists, but it is still carried in the arms of a nurse - a little girl Katya. We also see the grandmother's hand holding a ladle with which she pours the soup into a plate. The painting is called "At Dinner" So it began to be called when it was acquired
Tretyakov Gallery. But originally it was called "At Breakfast". Where does this confusion come from? Breakfast lunch. We know that soup is not eaten at breakfast.

It's just that in French there are two names for two meals. Le petit dejeuner. And just Le dejeuner. That is, just a second breakfast. And our way is lunch. So they changed the name. Adapted to our viewer.

But you also look at this table. It is already a wonderful still life in itself. Porcelain, silverware, buns like that. You look at everything with pleasure. What about children! It is not immediately obvious from the simple ones. Of the nobles. Barchuki. Eh, who would have known how their life would change dramatically. And very soon.

And what is so special about this picture? There’s nothing. But I am fascinated by the look of these children. Only a child can have such a look. He enters the world. He does not know this world. He only comprehends it with all his senses. This look is not burdened with knowledge, which will further enrich their life. Life, which, let's say in advance, will not be poor in various events. And here is almost the very beginning. There is also an undisguised exploratory curiosity in this look. There is also an undisguised alertness in him. They already know that there is good and evil in the world. Known from fairy tales and from their still small personal experience... I am trying to descend from the height of my no longer small age, and to descend at the same time when I was about five years old. And remember how I myself saw and felt the world around me, into which an unknown force threw me. Does not work. I'm annoyed. I am annoyed that I can no longer overcome this chasm of time. Never. Not given anymore. Gone forever. I remember the lines.

Unfortunately or fortunately
The truth is simple:
Never come back
To the old places
.Even if the ashes
It looks quite
Not to find what we are looking for
Neither you nor me.

That is, the good poet Shpalikov persuades us not to return to childhood. That is, to the place where we all come from. And I would come back. And whoever returned. And Shpalikov himself wrote it this way, in his hearts. This is evident from the continuation of this poem. But it is not given to anyone. Well, let. But this portrait of children with such eyes turned to us allows me, albeit indirectly, to return to those very places. Where we all come from.

They will look at us through a huge layer of time. And thanks to this portrait they will look for a very long, long time. I want to say forever. Although we know that these children have long lived their lives. And I cannot shake off this sad thought.

And then came the year 1917. The revolution. Or a coup. Because this event turned everything upside down in the life of the Serebryakovs. And it was the beginning of a whole series of misfortunes. Let's remember that the Neskuchnoye estate was located in Ukraine. And there, in an era of change, an indescribable mess began, if not stronger. We read M. Bulgakov. The estates were ruined. The landowners were shot. There are no laws in the mess. Everyone dances. And each has its own party. First atamans, then Germans and Poles. Red, white and even green. Fate is a turkey, and life is a penny.

And the family has four children. Not up to painting. They left Neskuchnoye and moved to Kharkov. And in the city, you also need to live on something. It has become expensive to rent a house. And they returned to Neskuchnoe again. And the estate had already been plundered by that time. The good news is that they didn't burn it. But, nevertheless, you have to live on something. And so the father of the family was so successfully offered a job in Moscow. And he was a railway engineer. He often went on business trips before. Built railways... Later he called his wife to Moscow. And they were already thinking about moving to the capital at that time and children. But here is a new problem. Grief. Boris Anatolyevich was returning home from another business trip. I rode with the soldier in the same heating house. And I caught typhus from them. And burned up in his flame. He died 12 days later, one might say, in the arms of his wife.

And then a new walk in agony. Where there are descriptions of Alexei Tolstoy. After the funeral, Zinaida returns to Neskuchnoye in Ukraine, where her children are waiting. And the revolutionary turmoil was gaining strength. It was becoming dangerous to stay in Neskuchny. They collected the remaining belongings, well, just like the Rostov family, on several carts they left the estate - their ancestral, Noble Nest... Fate kept them safe. Almost immediately the estate was burned

They arrived in Kharkov. And in it the Soviet power was already established. At least some order. She was even offered a job. Take part in the "First Art Exhibition of the Kharkov Council of Workers' Deputies". She accepted, why not. And still life was hard. For all. What about children? The oldest is 14, and the youngest is only seven. What are the childhood impressions they have left after everything they have experienced! Everything is in crimson tones. How they had to go through all these indescribable troubles. And the child's psyche should have suffered. Here is what Zinaida writes about this time:

“We live all the time dreaming of leaving somewhere, changing the insanely ridiculous present life, because mommy, children and I fuss all day, work (that is, we wash, wash the floors, cook, etc.) and do not do what we did all my previous life, I don’t draw, children don’t study.

And then Alexander Benois remembered his relative. He called her to Petersburg. And here I was a little lucky. She moved with hope to Petersburg with all her family. That is, all six. She, four children and a granny. She settled in Benoit's house. Got some work. She painted custom-made portraits for cheap. And there are six of them. But you have to buy canvases and paints. And the civil war was not over yet. And War Communism, with its hyperinflation, has just ended. But you have to buy food and clothes. Poverty. And at the same time, she manages to paint portraits. Take a look, for example, at the adorable portrait of Katenka, painted in 1923. It's called “In the Kitchen. Portrait of Katya "Look by all means, you will not regret it.

She could not help but think that something needs to be changed in life. She writes to her uncle, who was already living in Paris at the time. “How I dream and want to leave in order to somehow change this life, where every day there is only an acute concern for food (always insufficient and bad) and where my earnings are so insignificant that they are not enough for the essentials.”

And after that, she still left. But she did not leave for political reasons. As, for example, Bunin, who fled from the Soviets, cursing the "cursed days." She left just to survive. And then she left, as she thought, for a very a short time... But it turned out forever.

She left alone. First, one, and then two more of her children drove up to her. And she will see the other two only after many, many years. But even there, in Paris, one might say, the same poverty awaited her. And from what she earned, she sends to the children who remain in St. Petersburg. And what she creates on her canvases is evident from everything that she was a good artist. But who knew her then in Paris. And then promotion was needed. How long it took for the Impressionists to get off the ground. And who needs her in Paris, where the trend was not at all realistic manner in which Serebryakova works. Avant-garde trends reign there. All sorts of fauves, pointillists, expressionists, abstractionists, etc.

She is one. She's lonely. She misses the abandoned children. This is what she writes: I am always alone, nowhere, nowhere, in the evening I yearn to death ... "Well, for some time now, not quite alone. One by one, two of her children came to her, who, like their mother, remained forever in France. Yes, and to consider them Russians - there is also a question and strained. They were converted to Catholicism in childhood. They got French passports. That is, they became French citizens. They had strong French roots. They spoke French. Although they loved Russia. They considered it their first homeland. And they never spitefully hissed at the Council of Deputies, as many of the White emigres did.

And in Leningrad, two of her children also stayed forever with their grandmother. And now they began to recognize her on the sly. The orders became more and more. Once she made a trip to Africa at the expense of one Belgian baron - a patron of the arts. And brought a lot interesting works from Morocco. And in Paris, bitter news awaited her. Mom died in Leningrad. This was reported to her by her daughter Tanya, who remained in Russia. They broke up about ten years ago. Already somehow I got used to the idea that even if they are apart, there are in the world somewhere far away the people closest to her - a mother and two children. They live without any connection without her. But they live. And there is still the hope that someday they will see each other. She, this hope, only this consciousness that they live and exist, albeit falsely, but soothe the pain of separation. But now everything has become hopeless. And irrevocable. Nothing will happen anymore. Mom left. There is no it. I was going through hard. This is what she writes: “And why did I so selfishly leave you and her, my beloved, when my whole heart, my whole soul is connected with you. I have long, long agonizingly tormented by this fear of losing everything with my grandmother, and now it happened. "

No, already in the thirties she did not live in poverty. Her two children had already become adults themselves and were already earning their own living. And all for the artistic part. The elder was engaged book graphics, worked in the theater, and then as an artist in the cinema. And the youngest also realized herself in art. In painting and sculpture of small forms. Nevertheless, Zinaida, with all her French roots and excellent knowledge of the French language, was drawn to Russia. Autumn dragged on. In her soul, two Motherlands seemed to coexist. This is what she writes on the eve of the war: "Nothing came of my life here, and I often think that I did an irreparable thing, breaking away from the soil."

Let's not forget that two of her children lived in Russia. And they also realized themselves in art. And they were not at all unhappy. They wrote to her about this in their letters. Well, how can it be. The soul is torn in half. Or maybe it’s true, you need to go back? So the artist Bilibin returned. And everything is good there. But her Parisian children Alexander and Catherine did not at all express a desire to return. What for? Everything is so well settled and settled down here. And there you have to start from scratch, in this distant and no longer quite understandable Russia. And besides, there are examples of another kind. Well, lucky Bilibin. And it could have been different.

And then the war began. Let's remember that it started earlier for France than for us. France lost it shamefully in a few weeks. And the troops of the Wehrmacht marched in a brisk marching step, as the Germans knew how to do it, according to Champs Elysees... And many Parisians were present at this victorious fashion show. With a tear in my eyes. Maybe Serebryakova was among them. And her life began in the occupation. No, it was not at all the same life as, for example, the life of the inhabitants of surrounded Leningrad. And I had tourists from France, Parisians, who told me about that time. So they suffered. Well, imagine, there was no usual coffee in the morning. And this is not an anecdote. Heard with my own ears. So Zinaida continued to work. With my children. War is war, but the orders were. So, there was something to live on. There was, of course, a risk. The Nazis captured Jews and emigrants. Especially from Russia. If they didn’t have documents, then they were in prison, or even shot.

Well, what do you want from her. Well, she did not become Princess Obolenskaya. And she couldn't. Let's remember that the Russian princess was in the ranks of the Resistance. And she did not occupy a small post. She was arrested, kept in dungeons, interrogated and wanted to win over to their side. They said and asked, are you going to defend the Jewish Bolshevik regime? She replied: I am Russian and I defend Russia. She was guillotined in Berlin. And her ashes are now in the Russian cemetery near Paris. Cemetery of Sainte-Genevieve-des-Bois.

Another woman. All France knows her. And even if they don't remember her name, I know perfectly well the song of the French Resistance. This song seems to be the second after the Marseillaise, raising the spirit of patriotism among all Frenchmen. And the song was written by a Russian noblewoman. Her name was Anna Marley. Find this song on youtube. It is sung by Mireille Mathieu. And she loved Russia - her Motherland. Although for what to love? The family was expelled from the country. Her father and uncle, admiral of the fleet, were shot. And here you go.

And Zinaida no less cherished her spiritual roots, And she was not at all going to break ties with the earth, soil, with the place where it began life path... But to go to the Resistance ... Well, where is she - no longer very young and with poor health woman.
*****
The war ended and the correspondence between Zinaida and her children began again. And they have already become quite adults. For example, the daughter of Tatiana had her own son Ivan. That is, the grandson of Baba Zina. And despite her poor health and advanced years, she works. That is, he paints pictures. And he travels a lot. Once I arrived in London to see another of her distant relatives. With the famous actor and director Peter Ustinov.

And she is again called to return to Russia. The name is not only children, but also the Soviet government itself. Contacts are being established with her through the government. It is recognized by our authorities. And how not to admit it. There was nothing behind her that could tarnish her image in terms of loyalty to the USSR. Absolutely nothing. But her name was known all over the world. And France, after De Gaulle's visit to the USSR, was especially attractive to us. So everything turned out well. In the mid-60s, we organized extensive exhibitions of her paintings. In Moscow, Kiev, Leningrad. And a huge success everywhere. And she didn't even expect it. And this means that she was not forgotten at home. That she is loved and appreciated. That she is still a part of this homeland. This means that life was not in vain. And it will forever remain in the history of painting in Russia forever.

All this indescribably stirred her soul. And at the beginning, before the exhibition, this is what she wrote: "I cannot imagine which of my things can attract the attention of the public in the USSR." And now he is in shock. Even more than from meeting her with two children after almost forty years of separation, who came to Paris to visit their mother.

Zinaida Serebryakova lived a long life. Life is not at all poor in various events. She died at the age of 83. She was buried in the same Russian cemetery Sainte-Genevieve-des-Bois. I have been to this cemetery more than once. But he did not find the grave of Serebryakova. Found the graves of many other celebrities. I was particularly struck by one. Grave of Nureyev. This is a must see. Maybe you can find it on the Internet. Such an oblong hill, covered all over with a carpet of multi-colored mosaics. In terms of vulgar luxury, it can only compete with Yeltsin's tombstone at the Novodevichy cemetery. True, Nureyev returned. And even went on stage, greeted with applause. He walked across this stage. Because, due to a certain illness, he could no longer fulfill the flight fulfilled by his soul, as in former times. And then he came back again. This time not himself, but only his image, which, like a phantom, hovered over the entire luxurious hall. The Bolshoi Theater... Why, in what form. From this view, not only the ladies in the hall blushed with shame, but also the muses on the plafond above the magnificent chandelier. Well, God bless him.

Zinaida Evgenievna Serebryakova, her ashes are in the Russian cemetery near Paris. Her death took place almost imperceptibly in France. Almost not a line. But here this sad event was noticed and noted. There were articles. And there was a big obituary. It said that “the work of Z.E. Serebryakova rightfully entered the golden fund of Russian art. " And it is right!

The famous artist Zinaida Evgenievna Serebryakova was also a member of the World of Art association. Her whole family was engaged in art, so the girl's talent did not surprise anyone. She was one of the first women to go down in the history of painting. From the first works in Z. Serebryakova showed his own style. In the twentieth century, she was modeled on her own children, and in 1914 she painted a group portrait titled "At Breakfast."

The painting depicts three children at the table, waiting for a meal. The boy in the background is drinking water, the girl at the end of the table half-turns looks at the author, and the other boy, in the foreground, has taken a spoon and is ready to eat. All the guys behave naturally, not posing, but simply watching what is happening. The girl's name is Tata, the boy with water is Zhenya and, apparently, the most hungry is Shurik. Every child has a different facial expression. Tata looks at us with interest, in Shurik's gaze a certain question is visible, and Zhenya is conceived to quench his thirst. The aunts are wearing very pretty clothes. The boys are in navy blue suits, and a girl of the same color is wearing a dress covered with a white sundress.

Zinaida Serebryakova portrayed a difficult portrait of three children, but a whole picture, a work saturated with family warmth and love.

In addition to the guys, she identified most of the canvas for still life. In the center of the picture is a beautifully laid table. The tablecloth is very clean and white. The napkins are beautifully folded and have a holder. There is a pattern on the soup bowl and a yellow jug in the center of the table.

Z.E. Serebryakova portrayed a difficult picture of a morning breakfast, and she transferred a part of her life to the canvas. And looking at the quality of workmanship and color, this was one of the favorite stages of her life. This was the time where all the family members were and they could chat quietly over the family meal.
