A project on the theme of a portrait in the fine arts. Presentation on the topic "portrait of a man". Practical work of students

Portrait, as a separate genre of painting, was finally formed during the Renaissance. At this time, the ideas of humanism soared in society. The man and his rich inner world interested painters more and more. Depicting images on canvases, artists strove to convey not only external outlines, but also hidden feelings ..

In fact, the history of the portrait begins much earlier. V Ancient egypt before the burial of a person, they tried to "copy". It was these images - statues that were later found in tombs. The famous Sphinx was also the prototype of the portrait. All these images were of an exclusively ritual, religious nature.

The closest thing to the portrait was the Romans. In their culture, a bust appeared, in the manufacture of which the craftsmen sought to convey the features of a particular person. At the same time, the Romans looked at people very realistically - there is no ideality in their sculptures. Wrinkles, irregular facial features, excess weight- all this was considered acceptable, since they tried to make the image real.

At that time, people appeared in painting who were interested not only in art, but also in science. One of them is Leonardo da Vinci, who introduced many innovations to the portrait genre. He was one of the first to pay attention to human anatomy. His portraits are the most thoughtful works, where all the proportions of the face and body are observed. The master paid attention to every detail - facial expressions, gaze, turn of the head. The evidence of his talent is the famous "La Gioconda", the secret of which the best experts in the field of painting still cannot fully solve.

Over time, portraits began to be painted to order. However, portraits of great artists are much more than just portraits of specific people. Through their works, the masters were able to convey to us the atmosphere of their era, peculiarities of nationality, various historical events. Almost all famous painters have noted in this genre. This is evidenced by thousands of diverse works that are stored today in museums around the world.

Sources of

Dedicated to the transfer of the image of one person, as well as a group of two or three people on canvas or paper sheet. The style chosen by the artist is of particular importance. Drawing a person's face in a portrait is one of the most difficult areas in painting. The master of the brush must convey the characteristic features of the appearance, the emotional state, the inner world of the posing. The size of the portrait determines its appearance. The image can be bust, generational, waist or full length. The pose assumes three angles: face (frontal view), turn "three quarters" in one direction or the other, and in profile. The portrait contains unlimited possibilities for the realization of artistic ideas. First, a sketch is made, then the drawing itself.

History of the genre portrait

The oldest attempt at depicting a human face dates back 27 thousand years. The "painting" was discovered in a cave near the French city of Angoulême. The portrait is a chalk outline that vaguely resembles features human face... The ancient artist outlined the main lines of the eyes, nose, mouth. Later (also in caves) in the Balkans and Italy, clearer and more definite images began to appear, among which faces painted in profile predominated. It is human nature to create talented people they cannot live without leaving behind some kind of trace. It can be a pattern made of pebbles in the middle of a field, a carved ornament on the bark of a tree, someone's face painted with charcoal on a rock. There are plenty of opportunities for creativity.

Stucco images

Once the portrait genre tended to be embodied in sculpture, since in ancient times there were no artists who thoroughly mastered the brush and were able to convey the play of light and shadow. The image of the face in clay was better, and therefore, in those distant times, it was stucco portraits that dominated. The art of painting appeared much later, when humanity realized the need for cultural communication.

Burial

The appearance of images close to the drawing also belongs to a later period, and the first portraits were found in the ancient eastern territories. In the Egyptian state, the deification of the dead took place. During the burial, a kind of portrait was created, which was conventionally considered a double of the deceased. The principle of mummification appeared, and then portraiture. The history of the portrait genre contains many examples of iconic images in both drawing and sculpture. The drawings of the faces of the deceased became more and more similar to the original. And then the copying of the face of the deceased was replaced by a mask. The Egyptian deceased were buried in sarcophagi, on the lid of which the deceased was depicted full height with a beautiful stylized face. Such funerals were arranged exclusively for the nobility. Egyptian pharaohs, for example, were placed not only in the sarcophagus, but also in the tomb, which was a huge structure.

Variety of solutions

When painting a portrait, an artist has a choice: to depict a person's face and clothes in accordance with the original, or to be creative, creating an exquisite creative picture. The main condition for this remains similarity, which plays a dominant role. Independent - portrait art, open to experimentation of the widest range. The artist has the opportunity to improve his skills by applying the latest technical advances.

Indeed, the technique of execution is of decisive importance for achieving an optimal result. The most common way portrait painting at professional artists is This style goes back centuries. It was used by the artists of antiquity. Their works have survived to this day. Portrait as a genre of fine art has existed since time immemorial, and today it is a popular means of artistic expression.

"Dry brush"

V recent times the technique becomes popular when the image is created not by strokes, but by rubbing small amount paints. At the same time, the brush is almost dry, and the method itself allows you to get beautiful halftones. Since the most subtle genre of painting is a portrait, and the image of a face in paints requires precisely delicate shades, the "dry brush" technique is perfect for this purpose.

Types

The portrait genre is subdivided into several types: ceremonial, chamber, intimate and subject. There is also a special type called self-portrait, in which the artist depicts himself. As a rule, this is a purely individual drawing. In general, the portrait genre is completely independent, subject to certain rules. These rules are never violated, although their scope can be expanded under certain circumstances.

In addition to those already listed, there is another genre of portrait, which includes special artistic features, a specialized variety that requires a systematic approach. This is a costume portrait, when the canvas depicts modern man in the clothes of the past tense. The range of plots is not limited: from the skins in which he wore primitive, before the Renaissance wedding dress. This portrait variety contains elements of theatricality. V Russian Federation, especially in Moscow, the costumed portrait became widespread, but this happened not for the sake of fashion, but rather as a tribute to art.

Portrait genre in art

Picturesque canvases painted in different time, united by one prerequisite - the pictures must be reliable. An important role in this is played by the portrait component, in other words, the image of the characters' faces. The success of the picture depends on how carefully the facial features are written. Expression of eyes, smiles or, conversely, frowning eyebrows, all the nuances should be reflected on the canvas. It's not an easy task, but the credibility factor testifies to the artist's skill. That is why the genre of portraiture in art is so unambiguous and requires full dedication from the master. Experienced artists work best at paintings with people and their faces. close-up and accentuated movement.

Literary portraits

Writers, as well as artists, quite often depict a person's face. There are much more literary techniques for this, the rich Russian language allows the use of numerous art forms, turns and phrases. The goal that the writer strives for is identical in meaning to the intention of the artist, the writer describes the facial expression as a consequence of the mood of a person, the reflection of his thoughts, emotions and experiences. the portrait is quite complex. It is necessary to describe, avoiding superficial formulations. This requires the skill of a true creator. Among Russian writers who are able to express in a few words the essence of the human appearance, in the first place is the great Maxim Gorky. His American follower also masterfully mastered the art of verbal portrait drawing. The genre of a literary portrait is diverse, the description follows a certain style, it can be funny or sad, short or lengthy, it all depends on each individual work.

The photo

With the advent of daguerreotypes, the possibilities of fine art expanded, and portraits were no exception. A photographic portrait cost much less than an oil painting, and the recognition was one hundred percent. And although the artists sarcastically noted that photography is for the poor, "the general public turned towards a more accurate image on a silver-coated plate. The portrait photography genre quickly became fashionable, and there was no end to those who wanted to capture themselves and their loved ones.

However, the new method, the daguerreotype, had its drawbacks. Photography, in contrast to a picturesque portrait, did not allow changing anything. The image froze once and for all, it was impossible to fix something. And if we consider that the person was photographed sitting or standing (in a tense pose), then he did not go out in the picture the best way... Therefore, there were many disappointments, complaints and discontent. Nevertheless, portraits took root, people learned to pose artistically, and everything fell into place.

DURING THE CLASSES

The parable of the artist

There was an artist in the world who had the gift of seeing and capturing beauty.
His ability to see beauty amazed people! The people who lived nearby looked at the same - and did not notice that it was - BEAUTIFUL! .. Until then, they did not notice this, until the artist turned what he and they saw into a perfect picture!

This artist was the Great Master of BEAUTY! He touched the sight of the soul to what he saw - and depicted a beautiful moment of Eternal Being on his canvases. And then - a miracle happened: the previously imperceptible BEAUTY - became apparent to everyone who looked at the artist's picture!

Once he took up a portrait of a thin and inconspicuous girl, whom no one had previously considered beautiful. And she herself was also ashamed of herself and always hid her eyes with embarrassment ...
"So ugly, thin ... - and you thought of drawing it!", - people said to the artist.
But the artist did not listen to anyone and painted.
And the subtlety, and grace, and the gentle oval of the face, and the depth of slightly embarrassed eyes - suddenly came to life on the canvas, beautiful image creating.

And the girl looked, barely breathing: “It can't be that it's me ...
The picture is so good! "
“I’m just a mirror! - the artist answered with a smile, -
I just showed you the beauty of your soul!
Now live without hiding it from the world.
Your soul is like the beauty of the morning dawn!
And with the tenderness of your love you illuminate everything that you see! "

And he saw an old woman - and he began to paint her portrait. And people wondered: what did he find in such an old woman?
And the artist - he wrote every wrinkle on her hands - as he wrote in the chronicle. And they were in the annals of that word about a long and difficult life, about kindness, and about love, about children nourished by spiritual care, about grandchildren, nourished by deep wisdom ... now, and to those that are now in the distance, their light was like a river, which has its source in the kindness of the heart.
And in the portrait that - love, and wisdom, and peace - told people about a good life, about a soul
Big! And in admiration - a lot of people froze in front of that picture! And the love of a beautiful soul embraced their love - like a gentle evening dawn ...
The artist reflected everything so that people bowed in reverence to the old woman ...

- Guys, please tell me, what is the difference between the two concepts: "BEAUTIFUL" and "BEAUTIFUL"? And how do you understand the phrase "Portrait is a mirror of the soul?"

- Today in the lesson we will continue talking about the portrait.

Our task is to get acquainted with the history of the emergence of the portrait, to form our attitude to the portrait, to express our attitude to what we saw.
Many great minds of mankind reflected on the secrets and laws of beauty, on the nature of beauty.
- What does the word "portrait" mean? (That's right, a portrait is an image of a specific person, conveying his unique features - the structure of the face, character traits, attitude towards people)
- Determine the variety of the portrait by demonstrating the video sequence.
- Determine which reproduction is superfluous here

Varieties of portrait:

Historical portrait- depicts a figure of the past and a master created from memories or imagination, on the basis of auxiliary (literary, artistic, documentary, etc.) material. In a combination of a portrait with a genre or historical genre, the model often interacts with fictional characters.

Portrait-painting, genre portrait- the person being portrayed is presented in a semantic and plot relationship with the world of things around him, nature, architectural motives and other people (the latter is a group portrait-painting).

Portrait-type - a collective image structurally close to the portrait.

Costume portrait - a person is presented in the form of an allegorical, mythological, historical, theatrical or literary character. (The names of such portraits usually include the words "in the form" or "in the image", for example, "Catherine II in the form of Minerva"). Distinguish: Allegorical, Mythological, Historical, Family portrait

Self-portrait- it is customary to separate it into a separate subgenre.

Ceremonial (representative) portrait - as a rule, it involves showing a person in full growth (on a horse, standing or sitting). In a ceremonial portrait, the figure is usually shown against an architectural or landscape background; Greater elaboration makes it close to a narrative picture, which implies not only impressive dimensions, but also an individual figurative structure. Depending on the attributes, a ceremonial portrait is:

  • Coronation (less common throne)
  • Equestrian
  • In the guise of a commander (military)

Chamber portrait- a waist, chest, shoulder image is used. The figure is often drawn against a neutral background.

  • An intimate portrait is a rare kind of intimate portrait with a neutral background. Expresses the relationship of trust between the artist and the person being portrayed.
  • Small-format and miniature portraits made with watercolors and ink

The portrait is now an excellent source of knowledge about a person living at different times, just like the letters, diaries or notes of historians. But is it only historical information that is important and interesting to us, is it only the portrait resemblance to the person depicted that attracts us? Each portrait keeps its own secret about the inner world of a person.

From the history of the portrait

- Traveling in time and getting acquainted with the works of art of the portrait genre, let's try to determine not only the era, but also answer the question: why is the portrait called the “mirror of the soul”.

Ancient Egypt

The first portraits were created by the Egyptians. They performed a religious and magical function: the soul of the deceased had to leave the body, and then return after the judgment of the gods to the mummy of its owner and settle in it forever. It was also necessary to observe the portrait likeness so that the soul could find the body from which it flew. One of the famous portraits of that time is the portrait of Nefertiti (circa 1360 BC).
The first picturesque portraits were painted by the Egyptians on wooden boards with wax paints.

Ancient Greece

The ancient Greeks also painted, but they liked to sculpt portraits more, but the people depicted on them resembled gods and heroes from myths. In Ancient Greece, idealized sculptural portraits of poets, philosophers, and public figures were created. The authors sought to emphasize the circle of occupations of the person being portrayed, his social function, but did not care about preserving the individual traits of the person being portrayed (Homer as a poet, Pericles as a strategist).

Ancient ROME gave us the first psychological portraits.

Revival

The aesthetics of the Renaissance determined the specifics of the portrait: a person was the highest principle and center of earthly life. At the same time, real characters were equated with fictional (mythological) ones. Examples of this are paintings by S. Botticelli and Durer.
The High Renaissance masters - Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto - not only created images of their contemporaries, but reflected a whole world of feelings, emotions, moods.
It was then that a self-portrait appeared for the first time.

Conversation on the painting by Leonardo da Vinci "La Gioconda".

Teacher. Only out of all the huge number of portraits in the world there is one that almost every person on earth knows about, but keeps his own mystery even after many years. What do you think this portrait is? (Student responses.)

La Gioconda! This name has become a household name.
Why does this portrait of Leonardo da Vinci still amaze people today? Why is the riddle of this picture trying to solve everyone who looks at the portrait, but it still remains unsolved?
In the preface to the publication of "Selected Works" by Leonardo da Vinci, art critic A. M. Efros wrote that La Gioconda is least of all a portrait of Francesco del Giocondo's wife, but an image of some half-human, half-terrestrial creature, not smiling, but gloomy. And also A. M. Efros noted that Leonardo da Vinci did nothing for nothing. Each of his ciphers has a key and that no one will find this key for five centuries.
Some authors explain this impression on the face of Mona Lisa by the famous Leonardo's "sfumato". A prominent scientist, an expert on the history and culture of the Italian Renaissance, A. K. Dzhivigelov believes that with the help of "sfumato" it is possible to create a "living face of a living person."
What is sfumato?
This Italian word means: soft, indistinct, dissolving, disappearing. In this case, it is the technique of chiaroscuro introduced into Leonardo's painting.
But "sfumato" is present in almost all paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, and in the paintings of other artists, and, apparently, this is not enough to explain such an unusual, "now smiling, now frowning", expression on the face of Mona Lisa.
A major researcher of Leonardo da Vinci's work, M.A. from a wonderful portrait.
So, in the face of Mona Lisa not only an extraordinary expression, but this expression is changing all the time!
Consequently, in the person of Gioconda - movement. But all movement takes place in time. And the pictorial picture is static, it captured a moment!
Shortly before his death, a very sick and almost paralyzed Leonardo da Vinci, with painful efforts, put more and more smears on his great picture, looking for how to give the Mona Lisa's face more and more contradictory expressions, how to achieve variability of facial expressions in the same portrait, that is, variability over time.
And he never wrote about his latest discovery - a miracle, if not the motionless face of the portrait, the expression changes all the time!
This is how one portrait has occupied the minds for many, many years. a large number earthlings trying to unravel the discovery of the great scientist, artist, delights, amazes the audience, worries someone, worries.

Middle Ages

The Middle Ages became a period of unification of the personality, its submission to certain rules and norms, which was reflected in the creation of portraits, first of all, of people of social importance (rulers, confidants). They were able to penetrate into the inner world of their heroes, making them the personification of certain moral traits - arrogance, vanity , pride.

Western Europe

The greatest flowering of portraiture was in the 17th century, which gave the world such great masters as the Dutch Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn and Frans Hals, the Flemish Anthony van Dyck or spanish artist Diego de Silva Velazquez.
- And what feeling does this portrait evoke in you? (Portrait of an old woman).

Russian portrait

The first portraits in Russia were called "PARSUNS".
Well, the flowering of portraiture began in the 18th century.
The portrait of an unknown peasant woman by Argunov's brush shows us the natural beauty and dignity of a person, regardless of his class affiliation.
Her soft features, friendly smile, calm posture = everything emphasizes her modesty, purity, nobility of a Russian woman.
F. Rokotov, D. Levitsky, V. Borovikovsky glorified the 18th century in Russia, created mostly magnificent portraits of aristocrats.
Russian artists of the XIX-XX centuries turned to portraits of people who became famous not for nobility, but for their talent, love for the people. Their portraits are not striking in their external brilliance. They convey the truthful appearance of a person, the complex world of a human character. At this time appear ceremonial and chamber portraits.

And here, for the first time, we begin to understand that in the portrait there is a person with his own thoughts, feelings, character. A real conversation takes place between the artist and the viewer through the centuries. Is this not a real secret?

Here is a painting by Fyodor Rokotov "Portrait of Struyskaya". Take a close look at her, how does this woman appear to you?

Portrait

Love painting, poets!
Only she is the only one given
Souls of changeable omens
Transfer to canvas.
Do you remember how from the darkness of the past,
Barely wrapped in satin
From the portrait of Rokotov again
Did Struyskaya look at us?
Her eyes are like two mists
Half smile, half cry,
Her eyes are like two deceptions
Shrouded in the mist of failure.
A combination of two riddles,
Half-delight, half-frightened,
A fit of mad tenderness
Anticipation of mortal torment.
When darkness falls
And a thunderstorm is coming
From the bottom of my soul shimmer
Her beautiful eyes.

N. Zabolotsky.

There is another female portrait in Russian painting, which is shrouded in a haze of mystery and beauty (slide D. Borovikovsky "Portrait of M. Lopukhina") The poet Y. Polonsky was fascinated by the image of a young woman and sang her in his poems:

It has long passed, and those eyes are gone
And there is no smile that they silently expressed
Suffering is a shadow of love. And thoughts are a shadow of sadness ...
But Borovikovsky saved her beauty.

How does this image make you feel? Write these few words in a notebook (surprise, admiration, silence, grace, dreaminess, thoughtfulness, etc.)
19th century - these are the most complex characters, images - captured for centuries "
Kramskoy "Christ in the Desert"
M. Vrubel "The Swan Princess"

- Guys, please read again the epigraph of our lesson: "A portrait is a mirror of the soul."

Output: The artist not only conveys the external appearance of a person, but also his individuality, he penetrates into the soul of a person, reveals his character, feelings, and views of the world.

"They think that I grasp only the features of their faces, but without their knowledge I go down into the depths of their soul and take possession of it entirely" ( Latour)

- What should an artist take into account when creating a portrait that would really reflect a person's inner world?

Technique of execution:

- the choice of a characteristic pose;
- clarity of hands and gestures
- facial expression and especially eyes (eyes are the mirror of the soul);
- choice of background and composition;
- color selection.

The main means of artistic expression become: detail, color, coloring, composition, line, stroke, tone, background on which the figure of the portrait is located.

- And now I suggest you try to create your own image and mood.

There are faces like lush portals
Where everywhere the great seems to be in the small.
There are faces - the semblance of wretched shacks,
Where the liver is cooked and the abomasum gets wet.
Other cold dead faces
Closed with bars like dungeons.
Other, like the towers, in which for a long time
Nobody lives or looks out the window.
But I once knew a small hut,
She was ugly, not rich,
But from her windows at me
The breath of a spring day was flowing.
Truly the world is great and wonderful!
There are faces - likeness of jubilant songs,
Of these, like the sun, shining notes
The song of heavenly heights has been composed!

Repetition of the proportions of parts of the face when drawing a portrait using the training table.

Pastel technique. Master Class

Step-by-step showing by the teacher on the blackboard how to draw a portrait using the pastel technique.

Practical work of students

The final part of the lesson

- Let's see what we did, did we manage to cope with the task?

Mini-exhibition of students' works, discussion.

- Today we have made a journey with you to the wonderful world of human images. It was interesting? So why is the portrait called the mirror of the soul? (Student responses.)

Lesson conclusion: in the portrait, the artist conveys not only the resemblance to a person, but also his rich spiritual world and signs of the era, and an attentive viewer manages to solve this riddle (recording).

Homework(slide, note in a notebook):

1. Know the entries in the notebook.
2. Individual tasks: pick up pictures - illustrations depicting various images of a person, trying to describe the state, inner world, features, experiences of the person depicted in the portrait.
3. Creative task: paste a reproduction of the portrait you like into the album "My Opening Day" and come up with your own story about the person depicted.

- Our lesson is over. Thanks.
In your best works, you have managed to express your personal attitude to the depicted. Expressive compositions, original coloristic discoveries have given uniqueness to your works. What are your impressions of today's lesson?
